Does UMPI accepts ECTS credits easily?
#1
Hi everyone,

I currently hold 300 ECTS credits from a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree earned at European universities in fields related to engineering and art. Additionally, I’ve completed some título propio credits in areas connected to psychology, such as counseling.

I’m planning to apply to UMPI soon for the BA in Psychology and am in the process of designing a personalized study plan using Sophia and Study.com. However, I’m wondering if any of my existing ECTS credits could potentially transfer over as General Electives for the BA program, of course, after the NACES process.

Has anyone had experience with credit transfers in a similar situation? While I don’t mind completing 35 courses through Sophia, it would be great to have some of my previous credits recognized.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences!
Thanks in advance,

What is ECTS? UMPI does accept credit from European universities but the transcripts have to be evaluated by an organization such as WES.

Hello ss20ts, thanks for the reply.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a tool of the European Higher Education Area for making studies and courses more transparent. It helps students to move between countries and to have their academic qualifications and study periods abroad recognised (according to their website).

I plan to send the diplomas to a NACES or WES accredited institution, but I have Sophia monthly plan and I was thinking if it would be easier to just complete some courses until I reach the 35 credits. Regarding those credits, I understand that they can be related to anything that I consider interesting, right?

Thanks,

Basically, it depends, I would apply after you get your previous credits evaluated... Once they've got everything transferred, you'll know where you stand. I'm a bit confused why you're going for this BA first, why not go directly for a MS Psych at Walden instead? If you've taken a few classes in Psychology or have some experience, I would apply to Walden and get the MS Psych instead, unless you really need/want the UMPI BA Psych first.
