Don't misrepresent where you went to school.

Like I said, I wouldn't do it, but feel free to give it a shot and see how it works out for you.

The whole concept of getting away with it, means no one found out. Therefore, if we're not aware of them, they can't be listed. As for those people listed who did "get away with it," their reputation is permanently ruined in my book. Maybe they kept the money but being forever known as cheater isn't worth it.

When you become a CEO of a company, I think there is a high risk of being found out because, if the company doesn't do its research, then the media might. I can't remember which organization did this, but they found over 400 federal government employees with diploma mill degrees. I wouldn't chance it.

A few months ago there was that politician running for something local - maybe school board or something. She lied about having an associates degree and the school busted her in the media. It's almost funny that anyone would think they could get away with it in certain positions.

She also won her election anyway, which ironically enough was a school board position.

It's trivial for them to check your academic credentials. There are a handful of national clearinghouses that offer the service for $10-20. Education is one of the most commonly fabricated sections of a person's resume, so its likely employers will check. Even if they don't check right away, they're likely to check when you come up for a promotion or if they need an excuse to get rid of you. Don't start you career out based on a lie.
