Anyone here a former Excelsior grad, pursuing a new degree at Excelsior?
#1
Hi everyone, Confusedeeya:

In June 2007, I earned a BS in Business at Excelsior and couldn't have done it without the help I received here. And after I earned my degree, I was fortunate enough to have the time to help Steve Gloer set up the Specific Feedback section (so that's why you see my name so often...they weren't my posts..just sharing prior posts up to that point in time).

Anyway, I have decided to pursue a Bachelors degree in Pyschology, knowing that a good majority of the credits I've previously earned can be applied against the new degree. My question is this...since you were a returning student, did you have to submit an Undergraduate Application for Admission?

The reason I ask is that when I go to apply online in the Excelsior website, since I'm an alumni, it says to contact the Liberal Arts department, which I did a MONTH ago through the website and also via email. I've now called and left a voice mail, hoping someone will get back to me soon, but in the meantime I thought I'd check to see what people here have to say about it.

What I'm really wondering is this...since you are a former student...did they tell you what credits you still needed to earn for your 2nd degree, without enrolling yet?? I don't want to enroll until I'm much closer to completing the degree as I don't want it to take more than one year.

What was your situation like?

Thanks!!!!

JoAnne

P.S. It's great to be back in IC!! :hurray:

When I graduated with my ASN in 2010, they did a complimentary/preliminary evaluation of my credits for the BSN. I didn't continue on with them at the time. I returned temporarily in January of 2012, before life issues immediately pulled me back out in February. I officially returned again this past spring (2013). The only application I have ever submitted to them was for my very first involvement with them in 2009. Being an Excelsior alumni has its perks...I wish that held true about the annual student fee and the other fees that were in effect at the time of enrollment. But at least, my then-curriculum is still in effect, so there are a couple of new requirements that I'm exempt from. I'm registered for 4 courses between August and December, in hopes of making it to the January capstone. Here's to hoping for the best.....

Thanks for your feedback--I really appreciate it!

I did finally hear from someone in the Liberal Arts dept. and while she wouldn't tell me what specific courses/credits I still need to take to earn my Psychology degree (because I'm not yet enrolled), she at least told me the number of credits I'll need (only 32..whoop whoop...:hurraySmile which was a huge help by itself, since it helped me to narrow things down a bit.

Anyway, best of luck to you with your four courses! Be sure to let all of us know once you've graduated! cheersmate

32 credits is great and sounds doable in a reasonable amount of time. I think I have 23 credits remaining including the capstone. I'm just trying to get done with this before my life goes into another uproar. Between a grown daughter who THINKS she knows everything and a mother who SWEARS she knows nothing, I could use a little couch time when you complete your degree. LOL!
Good luck with your program!
