I wouldn't get too down about it. It's a blessing that we found out about this now instead of later. There may be enough time to get in quite a few dantes hours. Here's a list of courses that a lot of people on this forum have gotten A's on using only IC.
Criminal Justice
Here's to your health
Ethics in America
Principles of Supervision
Intro to law enforcement
Drugs and Alchohol
Foundations of Education
That's 21 hrs right there, and I don't know what your schedule is like but you could possibly get them and more done before they take away the old tests. From the specific exam feedback these seem to be the easiest ones to take.
Another way to boost your gpa is to take cleps, dantes, ece's for the c's that you don't want on your transcript. Even though they are pass or fail they will replace the ones you don't want. And in case you don't know this excelsior does not count d's or f's in your gpa nor do they show up on your transcript.

Here's a few more that from what I've gathered on this forum are pretty easy.
organizational Behavior
Environment and Humanity Race to Save the Planet
Fundamentals of Counseling
Make sure you do your research on the specific exam feedback.

Kelly, sorry to be the bearer of bad news! I'm right with you, as I'm trying to map out an alternate degree path myself, one where I can get the most letter grades. That would seem to be looking for community college courses I can take (online or evenings since I work full time) that match the requirement descriptions in the Business Catalog and accepted by EC.
Since I'm older, wiser (hopefully) and more focused this time around, I'm pretty confident that I can do well and be able to get my letter grades that way.
EC exams also offer letter grades, though a bit more expensive. Still, if the GPA is worth it to you, they're definitely an option.
Maybe these ideas will help you. Keep your chin up!

So I just took the Management Information Systems exam today (the old version) and passed with a 66! Long story short, until 2 days ago, I thought I needed to just take the Intro to Computing exam and didn't realize that it was actually the MIS exam  until the 11th hour. Crammed 18 hours for it yesterday with IC and Peterson's and a lot of praying, and passed with an A <wipes sweat from brow>.
I know I should probably post this in the Test Results thread, but wanted to mention that the online exam menu gives you two options for exams offering the new format, ie:
- Management Information Systems
- Management Information Systems (Rev. 2008)
So just make sure you pick the "right" one if you want the two digit score.
Next up is Statistics!
Happy testing!

Hi Helen,
Doesn't it usually take a while to find out your scores. I am just wondering because I haven't taken my first dsst yet and from what I have heard on this forum it usually takes awhile to find out your grade. If you know right after the test that would be great.
Congrats on passing the test!

The online computerized format gives you your score immediately after you finish - similar to CLEP.
The paper based format takes a few weeks since they have to send it off to be graded.
Just depends on what format your test center is offering. The test site locator on DSST's website will tell you if the center is offering the computerized version or not.

Thanks for the info.
I was thinking that the paper based were the old ones and the computer tests are the new ones. But I just realized it is the opposite. The two sites in my area use only the paper based so I guess that would mean that I will not be able to take the old tests.
Does anyone know if this new scoring method is permanent? I read on another post that it might be temporary.

Kelly Green Wrote:With that GPA, grad school is out of the question, and it's too expensive, anyway. Not all grad schools are expensive. Andrew Jackson, Aspen U, Chadron State U, insert your favorite affordable school here, etc...
The way I see it, we just keep getting fresh and interesting (sometimes very affordable) options all the time.
Quote:With a combination of the accounting courses (graded) from LSU, and graded DANTES exams, I would have had just over 60 hours of graded coursework, with presumably a good GPA this time around (older, wiser, etc.).
I just feel so deflated now. My 4 miserable college years are coming back to haunt me YET AGAIN.
I suppose I could still do the Excelsior degree, but with so few graded courses, the new and improved GPA would be much less meaningful.
Perhaps you can still tinker with your plan to make it work. Maybe if you post your plan here, forum members could possibly point out solutions and you may still be able to accumulate credit from available letter graded DSST exams as much as possible within a short period, using easier subjects. Granted, that would mean taking more exams, but may ultimately get you the GPA you wanted.
I'm not sure if I'm correct with this, but I believe many graduate schools will make their own evaluations of your transcribed scores anyways, regardless of GPA. I know you're thinking that you won't be able to get your foot through the door with your score, but as Christ put it “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you.” While I'm certainly not a religious person, I think you may be able to find your way around the GPA hurdle, just keep knocking those doors. I'd recommend a quick browse through Distance Learning Discussion Forums - Powered by vBulletin (in case you haven't come across it yet).

I have been a lurker too for awhile. I was worried about the new scoring everyone has talked about. Well today I went for the Dantes Intro to World Religion. Its computerized. Anyhow, there were two choices on the screen to choose from, one was just Intro to World Religion, and the other was Intro to World Religion (rev.8/08) I tthink the second one to be the NEW test and scoring system so.................I chose to take the first one. I passed, 58!!
Now about the test...whew. I thought it was hard. I have been studying my rear end off. But I had read on several posts that Instacert was not enough. So have been like a mad woman reading other texts about religion. That made me not focus as much with what was on Instacert, and that was a HUGE mistake. Most of what was on the test was covered on here, and alot of it was in the rationales.
So I highly recommend Instacert for Intro to World Religions.
