English Comp I and II - CLEP advice
#11
As long as you have that in writing from an advisor then I would consider that good to go. I have the "Exception" bit on mine as well for a few of my CCAF credits. It means "You must have 3 hours of college math, but we made an exception and will accept your 2.67 credits as filling the full requirement." Some of mine are only 2 credits but they made an exception and allowed a 2 credit course to fill a 3 credit slot.

Note that this is not the same as saying your 2.67 credits magically becomes 3 credits, just that their requirement for a 3 credit math course is waived in your case to be filled by your 2.67 credit course.

Now, my understanding was that you still have to come up with the right number of credits, and if they allow an exception like this you still have to come up with an extra .33 credits somehow. But I could be wrong. In fact I probably should e-mail them myself since if they literally waive it then I may be able to drop a test or two from my plan...

Just curious, what plan did you have before that required math credits that couldn't be waived just like this one was? I don't understand why changing the program would affect that, unless your program required precalculus or calculus.

I had TESC change my degree program to AAS in Applied Computer Studies and it looks like I don't need Math credits any longer. Take look below... it says "Completed" in parenthesis. I thought I needed .33 in Math??

Code:
D: College Mathematics (Completed)
      > Complete 3 semester hours of college mathematics.
[COLOR=#0000ff]!! [B][U]Exception[/U][/B]
[/COLOR]  [COLOR=#0000ff] [U][B]Over .33 Gen Ed Electives. 2.67 allowed here

[/B][/U][/COLOR]          Src Course #   Title                     S.H.    Grd TESC #     Notes
          3.. MATH1720   College Algebra.......... 2.67    A   MAT-121    *CC *TE

What does the !!! Exception mean?? Also, the person who changed my degree program also said that I only need ENC-101/ENC-102. It seems to me like I don't need any more Math.

If you look at the S.H. column you only have 2.67 cr (qtr hr system). The exception notes TESC's acceptance of the 2.67 cr in lieu of the required 3.0 cr. They borrowed .33 credits from General Education electives to make up for the loss...meaning at the end you would total 120 credits.
Hope you understood this explanation?

I originally had BSAST in Info Tech. as my only degree program. And yes, that did require precalc. Since then, I changed to the AAS for the short-term with the goal of completing the BA LS.

Wait, does that mean they would need to find an additional .33 credits so everything adds up to 120? That's what I thought was the case with mine and is what I've been planning for, but OP states TESC said only two WERs are required now. That sounds to me like TESC is going to award an AAS that is short .33 credits.

I'm really interested in this now...

The AAS requires only 60 credits and I currently have 85 credits that will transfer... but I'm missing College Comp for the AAS.

Hi, I'm confused about what you are asking, as noted on the OPs evaluation the .33 credits was coming from extra credits in another area so he is not short. If you need added credits to fill the required 60/120 credits, it would show in the exception note (BTW, I've only seen this referenced on this forum.) For example, in free electives or general ed you will have another note where credit was applied (or added to make whole) to the 2cr areas..or they could have just accepted the 2cr course to fill a 3cr slot...if memory serves this was the case with the PF systems design course.

OK that threw me a bit. I thought they were saying they would accept the 2.67 course as fulfilling the requirement but OP would still need to come up with .33 credits anywhere to make sure it all added up to 120. Didn't catch that they were pulled from overflow elsewhere.
