English & Freshman Comp CLEPs Discontinued
#1
When I finally received my CLEP transcript yesterday (they actually sent me two, which I certainly don't mind), I took to examining the "What your CLEP scores mean" sheet for what was probably the twentieth time. But this time it was different. A note at the bottom indicated that at least one exam would be discontinued come July 1, 2010!

The following exams will be discontinued summer of next year:
English Composition with Essay
English Composition without Essay
Freshman Composition

They will be replaced with two other six credit exams:
College Composition
College Composition Modular

As these tests are not yet on College Board's website, I'm not sure exactly what they entail, but I certainly hope that Excelsior decides that they're credit-worthy! It would help a lot of EC students. You never know.

Point is, if you've been planning on taking any of the English CLEPs above, make sure it happens before the end of June.

That is really good information....I wonder what the two new exams will be like? Will they be very similar to the old ones? I'm sure we'll find out soon.

Edit:
Here are some links I found on The CollegeBoard Web site with more info about the new exams: CLEP - College Composition Exams

Think it means that EC might consider using it for credit. This is what College Board writes on the link Andrew provided:

Quote:College Composition includes multiple-choice items and two mandatory essays scored by CLEP. College English faculty from throughout the country score the essays via an online scoring system. Learn more about scoring CLEP essays.

College Composition Modular includes a multiple-choice section that may be supplemented either with an essay section provided by CLEP and scored by the college, or an essay section provided and scored by the college. This exam is intended for colleges that want a valid, reliable multiple-choice assessment and greater local control over the direct writing assessment.
That last sentence sounds a bit like Excelsior. Again: who knows?
