Toastmaster Wrote:How much is it to apply at TESU? I'm thinking of applying now, and not taking the TECEP for awhile. I'm currently finishing up my Associates at Excelsior, and will be done with the vast majority of credits by December. Reading this thread has me thinking that maybe I want to lock in TESU's current system. I totally miss the TECEP counting as residency, as well as the Arnold Fletcher Award (the old system of qualification)
I think it is $75, but if you apply as a matriculating student, TECEPs will be something like $40 cheaper each than if you took them as a non-matriculating student. After only a couple TECEPs, you might have saved/made that money back, so to speak.
But don't feel pressured to apply/enroll -- there are multiple methods of doing so as you can tell from this thread and others, and in the end you need to figure out what is *best for you*.

Now I have to find out the difference between matriculating and non matriculating, LOL! But you're right, it is PRESSURE I feel, hahaha! I've always felt it, but I was more focused on just getting things started, and then getting things done (in regards to my associates). Now that I'm in a groove and have momentum, I call myself "peeking forward" abit. Just wanting to make my next step/pivot as "safe" as can be, LOL! Thanks!

And, I don't think anyone responded to my point about having to monitor TESU when they do an eval, but it has happened to me numerous times that they moved courses around when I brought in a new course. Almost every time I get an eval. And, they've done things like taken a course out of my AOS and moved it to Gen Ed or something crazy. I've had to spend too much time getting them to switch things back to what it was.
AND, if they move something, and you don't notice, and then they change the rules on you, it might be very difficult for you to get them to move it back later.
... I mentioned that if someone's budget was tight, they might want to wait. I never had a problem, maybe because I always had my tests planned into my eval before I took them, so they already knew where to apply them when they showed up. Also, the equivalencies for CLEP and DSST are so well known I have trouble believing they would mess those up.

Ah well, then you haven't had the pleasure of them moving a course randomly. This didn't happen with CLEP's or DSST's, but with other courses I took. Each time I would transfer in a new course/exam, they would move the ones that were already in the eval into new places.
I've also had to help people with their evals where TESU didn't maximize things as they should have - like put Sociology in Gen Ed Electives instead of Diversity. Or put UL World Religions in Diversity when they could have put it in the AOS (esp when the person took something else that was a Diversity requirement like 100-level Anthropology that wouldn't help as much in the AOS as the Religion course would).

If you have done your general education requirements, electives, and free electives. You should apply and enroll as you would just need your AOS to complete. An evaluation would be made in 4-5 weeks and will indicate what's missing. Have you checked the Beginners Guide or DF Wiki to plan out your degree?
