Hey Guys,
I am planning to register at Excelsior...I am currently a LPN...could you give me a brief overview of the program please...and thanks!!!!
How do you rate the program?
How soon do you plan on finishing?
What study techniques did or are you using?
How much does the program cost
Good Luck to you on your journey!

The best advice I can give you is to make sure your state BON will accept your Excelsior nursing degree. Several are no longer accepting it. As for study sources you can use Studygroup101. Their CD's are great. You can find them on Ebay. There are several good yahoogroups geared towards Excelsior nursing students that have a lot of helpful information and good support. Just search in Yahoogroups. IC is good for some of your gen ed requirements test needs. I dropped out of the EC nursing program with 1 nursing exam, 2 gen ed exams and the CPNE to finish. I did some of my gen eds with them and 5 nursing exams, back when there were fewer exams (6 total). If your state BON will accept it and you have current nursing experience you should be fine. But I will tell you that their CPNE pass rate is very low, something like 30%, so plan to attend a practice session or do a lot of practice following the study guide. That is why I dropped it, along with the fact that I no longer wanted to get into nursing. It can work out to be more expensive if you have to take the CPNE a few times and if the test center isn't near you. Good luck!

Everything above is true. The other thing to realize is that you MUST play Excelsior's game. It doesn't matter what you actually do in clinical practice. You do things the way Excelsior wants them. Also, you will be assigned several areas of care. Do them one by one. Do not think that it makes more sense to listen to bowel sounds after lung sounds. Complete your assessment of the lungs and then you may move into a different area. They do not want you mixing the areas up.
I did the workshop by Chancellors and it was good.

I graduated last year...its doable but you have to be focused...the CPNE pass is more like 68% its doable, I did mine with no reapeats....my advice is take a workshop when its time, there is one in CA that was awesome, highly recommend it.....dont go by what others say, reading all the negative comments will bring you down, stay focused and anything is possible...

The Excelsior pass rate is more like 68 %. It Ia noted on there website. Yes the CPNE is tough, I Just passed my second time around. I prefer this way, instead of trying to get into a RN program. I am now waiting To take my NCLEX. Just Check with your BON, also Excelsior has that info too. Dont be afraid of the CPNE, I was and put off doing the program. Check out www. Allnurses.com go on the distance learning forum under students.
