Excelsior "locker room" advisors :)

From reading some of the posts here, I see that some of you are pretty knowledgable about Excelsior and their requirments so I would like to get your oppinion.

I need to get a bachelor's degree (any degree) to get into my grad school. I still have some science pre-reqs that I will have to take at brick and mortar schools regardless of which degree I go for.

Can you guys take a look at what I have and what I will have and give me your feedback on what I would need, what I could test out of, and the fastest ba/bs I could get from excelsior.

My choice would be Health Science because that is the field I will be going into and also because they are having an enrollment special right now that would save me several hundred dollars. I'm just not sure how many classes I would actually have to take from them and how many I could test out of (my tests are free so it doesn't matter how many tests I need). I'm not sure if it would be quicker or cheaper to get the HS or one of the Liberal Arts like psych where I could test out of almost everything.

Here's what I got:

Courses I already have:

Fresh Comp I (CLEP)
Fresh Comp II
Ethics
Intro to Computers
Intro to Computer Programming
Management in Computer Information Systems
Accounting I
Accounting II
US Hist I (CLEP)
US Hist II (CLEP)
Speech (CLEP)
Humanities (CLEP)
Environment and Humanity (CLEP)
78 hours of Avionics through Community College of the Air Force (could be used as electives and such?)

Pre-Reqs I need to take:

Bio I (B&M)
Bio II (B&M)
Chem I (B&M)
Chem II (B&M)
Anatomy &Physiology I (B&M)
A&P II (B&M)
Micro biology(B&M)
Organic Chem (B&M)
Statistics (I'll test this one)
Psych (test)
Algebra (test)
Poli Sci (6hrs) (test)
Soc/Beh Sci (test)

I am new here myself and in no way an expert but I think if you can take the GRE psychology test coming up soon (Oct, Nov ?) and get above a 35% you can get up to 30 credits (some upper level). It may just fulfill all major requirements.
Excelsior College
Bachelor of Science Degree Liberal Studies

Total Lower Level Credits Complete 85
Total Upper Level Credits Complete 31
Total Credits Toward Degree 116

Total Lower Level Credits Needed 1
Total Upper Level Credits Needed 3
Total credits Needed for Degree 4

if you dont care what kind of degree i would go with a liberal studies degree from excelsior. you would not have to take any of the things on the pre-reqs to get the degree, unless those are pre-reqs for grad school. you have around 120 credits take a clep or two, satisfy the upper level requirement plus information lit and you will have you degree. (not to mention the huge graduation fee)

i beleive you need an 80% to get the full 30 credits but for each percent lower you get less credits, for example 70% would get 27, 60% would get 20... these are just examples and not real numbers. They do not like to share how many credits they give for the gre. i call and emailed many times about it.

Just a quick correction here, I believe it's percentile and not percent correctly answered.

Your quickest and cheapest option is going to be a Liberal Studies degree and you can test out of most of it. Although having a health science degree wouldnt hurt, one of the reasons they have the pre-req is for people changing thier field of study.

I am not going to lay out an entire plan, you can look at the EC catalog and do that yourself but on a general note you need 120 credits, at least 30 of those upper level and for the LS degree two depths/areas of study with at least 12 credits each, three of those being upper level. An example would be history, you have 6 credits, would need to take 6 more, three at UL. It looks like with what you have taken, the pre-req you are going to take and your Avioncs(free electives) you will have the general req met, what you will need to do is fulfill the depths and once that is done take whatever number of UL tests to hit your 30. As mentioned before you can also do a GRE subject test in Psych or one of the other areas and if you score in the 80th percentile or above you get 18 LL and 12 UL. Even if you dont need the LL still 10 bucks a credit.

Now for the REALLY good news...of the pre-req you mentioned ALL except Org Chem can be tested out. Bio I&II,Chem I&II are CLEPs..A&P I&II and MicroBio are ECE tests.

I would also caution you on the Org chem some schools want it done at 300 level or above so no taking at a community college.
