Excelsior or Thomas Edison to recieve your degree sooner?
#1
I think TESC seems more prestige than the other. YESC seems to accept a lot of credits but what is th elimit they will allow? Some school will only take 60% and you have to complete the rest through their school. How is TESC when it comes to that? I like to get CJ degree, however I would like to get a political science degree as well. Who would you recommend for a PS degree besides AMU?

I went to excelsior for poly sci and I loved it, I have since gotten two job offers to be an jr intel analysts. TESC, excelsior and charter oak all take 100% transfer credits. If you have 120 credits to transfer, the will take them. if they satisfy the requirements they will give you a degree.

BS, Political Science, Excelsior College 2008
MSSL, Strategic Leadership, Mountain State (currently enrolled) 2009

well in that case I'll do both. I didn't even know EXC. offered political science degree. I'm a intel specialist withthe navy reserves and already have my clearance but I'm lackign experience. If I had a PS degree it will open more doors. I need to start volunteering for TDY's to attain the experience tis companies seek. PM me who you working for.

I know that the bachelor's degrees seem "easy" and "cheap" but I'd suggest getting one bachelor's and then getting a masters. Most master's programs are only 30-40 credits. Accredited Online University - American Public University (APUS) - Online Learning University, Distance Education, Online University Degree Programs has some really cool master's programs you might like - all regionally accredited and all online. (Cheap too)

That is cool, I have the clearance and the degree and no experience. I am an AE in the navy. big bucks in contract intel, go for poly sci. For CJ what are you going to be a cop? if you are looking for money, you wont find it there.

navy reserves with a name like aj"USAF" sounds like air force to me. and you said TDY, the navy calls it TAD.... sounds fishy to me. I would make a great intel guy.

I won't get the Poly unlessmy job requires it. As far as the CJ that is because I already have credits from being a MP and I'm currently a cop with the Govt. I guess I can use the CJ credits as electives and just focus on the Political Science degree.
I thought about AMU Intel degree since I already have earned about 9 credits from the Navy intel training. I think its probably easier to earn PS degree which should require less classes. How many PS classes did you have to take to earn that degree?

I was recommended many many many times not to go to amu for their intel degree. see this thread
Master of Science in Intel? - Distance Learning Discussion Forums

At excelsior, most of the CJ stuff is interchangeable with poly sci. I took courses like intro to law enforcement, international terrorism, and counter terrorism. it was a lot of fun.
Police departments recognize both poly sci and CJ for purposes of advancement and other stuff or so I am told. The real difference is the details. Instead of studying police admin for cj you will study policy formation. The outcomes are very different. It would be hard to be an intel guy with a cj degree but easy with a poly sci one. just stuff to think about officer, please dont give me a ticket.

i AGREE. Originally I was going to attain both, however you persuaded me to just stick to PS Cool I was looking at there degree program but it doesn't break down how many classes I would have to do as far as Core courses to earn that degree. Right now I should have a total of 30-40 credits not to include the Cleps That I will start soon and hoping to clep around 15-30 credits

well every major has to be at a minimum of 30 credits. That is roughly 10 classes. Now the credits you already have will most likely transfer into that major. BUT you still have to have I THINK and I could be wrong 15 of them be upper level. These are mostly classes you are going to have to take. I think I took ECE world population, ece world conflicts since 1900 and ECE ethics. I am not sure if the last one applied to the major or not but you can take DSST rise and fall of USSR and I think that is it. PLUS for poly sci you need to take statistics. You can take the dsst test or take the class (which i did). The degree is a total of 120 credits and 30 have to be upper level. So when it comes to those upper level tests make sure you know what is going on.
besides that enroll and get started, excelsior will tell you everything you will need or at least look at the catalog, it is in there too.
