To be fair, this time it's the Fielding people who have something new to remember. You University of the State of New York folks can keep the current name for a change!

You mean State University of New York? We don't have the University of New York here which is weird. We're the oddballs!

Also EC became EU because state law changed. We've had a bunch of colleges become universities because of the change in law. From what I remember, the colleges had to offer a minimum number of master's degrees to become a university.

Why were they ever Regents College? The Board of Regents runs education in NY. We have also had Regents Diplomas for high schoolers for decades which are worthless outside of NY.

Institutionally, Excelsior's is the one that matters since they're the ones acquiring Fielding. But preserving the APA accreditation of Fielding's doctorate in clinical psychology is the real key here.

But are they interested in keeping WASC? A California office/campus?

Given that they just announced a DBA, it looks like you called it!

Nope, because they're the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Before it was spun off as Regents College, it was the Regents External Degree Program of that oddly named body.

I don't see why they would be, since that's a lot of overhead in exchange for no additional advantage. But who knows?

I once went to a job interview and the interviewer said my degree was not real as he had graduated from Regents College and knew of no school called Excelsior College in New York. He was not happy with what I told  him next.

Great story but this has always been my concern with their name. "Regents College" sounds more legit than "Excelsior".

Excelsior College sounds like a college Stan Lee would have used in a comic book.

New York is the Excelsior State. I live here and think it's goofy. At least they didn't call it Washington Avenue Extension College.

I agree with you that the name is a little unusual. That said, New York is the Empire State. Its motto is "Excelsior".

It's probably a good thing that Stan Lee wasn't from Virginia, because if he went around saying, "Sic semper tyrannus!" everywhere, people would think he was a John Wilkes Booth reenactor.

Excelsior is on our state flag. It's rare to find someone here who knows what it even means. Washington Avenue Extension College would be abbreviated as WAEC which sounds like a radio station or local ABC affiliate.
