Financial Institution Management
#1
I saw this Thomas Edison State College | BSBA in Financial Institution Management

It's seems like this is a new one...I had never seen it before, I'm thinking about switching from General Management to it (provided I don't lose a crap load of credit in switching) mainly because it offers some degree of specialization and looks nearly identical to the General Management BSBA course requirements.

I'm not enrolled with TESC yet, (or they haven't contacted me to let me know that they got my money) So I wouldn't be technically changing majors with them.
Thoughts or opinions?
Is anyone here working towards this major?

Sounds pretty good to me. I wonder how flexible the finance electives are since those don't seem to be subjects you can test out of.

I'm not sure but if I'm adding everything up right it's only three additional classes difference between what I'm going to have to do for a Gen Management degree and they look like more interesting classes.

From the standpoint of marketability in the workplace I think it would be a good choice over Gen Management.

Yes it would be. I would just call it finance since it takes getting your transcript to actually see the concentration anyway. My wife has a degree in finance and she never calls it a degree in business. I guess business is implied. Her diploma just say bachelors of science and that's it.

And I have (almost) a degree in Management Information Systems! We work hard for those and they sound so much better than just "business".

The TESC degree above sounds like fun, and could be useful in the financial industry. Since most of the electives look like they would need to be taken as classes, I would weigh it against other useful majors.

It looks to me that, with the right electives and quantitative background, this could be a useful degree for some jobs in the insurance industry. For bank or money management jobs I think a traditional finance or economics degree would be better.
