Hi everyone,
In my previous post, I mentioned that I was planning to apply to UMPI and that I created a degree plan with your help. I’m sharing the link to my plan here:
My Degree Plan
According to this plan, I have completed all of my external courses except for Spanish 101 at Sophia, which I will finish this week. (In total: 21 Sophia courses, 4 Study.com courses, and 3 Coursera certificates.)
As an international student, I am also scheduled to take the IELTS exam next week. After that, I believe I will be fully ready to apply!
I have a few questions and would really appreciate your advice:
- Should I find a firm for my external credit evaluation and another firm for my high school diploma evaluation, or should I apply to UMPI first?
- Can you walk me through the international student application process?
- Based on my degree plan, am I missing any courses or requirements?
Thank you all so much again for your amazing support and guidance!

Yikes, there has been some changes/recent discoveries. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ed-By-UMPI
In short, some of the Sophia/Study.com courses may come in as generic business credits and would not longer satisfy requirements. I just looked into the BBA Pm in the other thread.
- Courses from Sophia that would no longer apply towards BBA PM: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Business Ethics, Project Management, Operations Management
- Courses from Study.com that would no longer apply towards BBA PM: Accounting 301: Applied Managerial Accounting, Business 304: Leading Organizational Change, Business 312: Advanced Operations Management
As a result, you need to take 14 courses at UMPI based on your plan: ENG 1, ENG 2, BUS 150, BUS 200, BUS 220, BUS 325, BUS 353, BUS 440, BUS 469, BUS 210, BUS 141, BUS 240, BUS 415, BUS 401. I'm not sure about Calculus replacing BUS 140 so I'll leave that for now.
My recommendation:
BUS 440: IBM Data Analyst Professional Cert. The first 3 sections of the IBM Visual foundation cert are part of the Data analyst cert so you have to complete the remaining 8 sections. https://www.coursera.org/professional-ce...ta-analyst
BUS 210: Sophia Business Communication (since you're already in the middle of a Sophia session)
BUS 220: Saylor Academy Managerial Accounting (content free, $5 proctoring) https://learn.saylor.org/course/view.php?id=53
BUS 150: CLEP Financial Accounting (Free via Modernstate voucher. double check international students qualify) https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Se...eap_Credit
That would make it 10 courses at UMPI to graduate. You could make things simpler by taking BUS 150 and 220 at UMPI for a total of 12 courses. You can also consider changing majors to the BLS if you want to avoid all this extra work.

You'll have to go through the extra hoops to get the degree at UMPI as you've not applied yet... This came into affect today, I believe. Basically, apply, send in all your transcripts, see how your credits land and then decide where to get the remaining credits... You want to try and max out-get as many transferred into the degree and then complete the minimum residency requirements.

Wow, this is very disappointing news for me. I’ve already filled out the application form and sent my transcript via Credly. I’ll wait to see which courses UMPI accepts for transfer before making a final decision on this issue.
On the positive side, I believe I still have a chance to finish the degree in two terms, which would still be a great opportunity. For now, I’m waiting for UMPI’s response. I also asked if I can waive the high school transcript requirement, since I’ve earned more than 60 ACE-recognized credits. If that requirement can be waived, it would be a huge relief.

They do not waive the high school transcript requirement for credits earned solely through ACE providers. However, if you have 60+ semester college credits or an associate degree—including credits combined with ACE from a previous university or college—They can waive this requirement.

Hi everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ve officially been accepted to UMPI, and my transfer credit evaluation is complete! Since I finished my Sophia and Study.com courses before the May 1st changes, my transfer credits weren’t affected—they accepted 101 credits.
Now I only need to complete 10 more courses to fulfill my degree requirements. Nine of them are for my major, and one is to meet the residency requirement. I’m planning to finish all of them in one term.
Do you have any suggestions for courses that are easier to complete?

No, just complete the remaining 10 classes that shows up in your academic evaluation. For that one outside the major, check the UMPI class review thread for something easy, or take one of the four classes that's remaining from your Bachelors that can go towards the MAOL.

Thanks! From what I read in the UMPI guide, as long as you started your courses before May 1, 2025, the credits should transfer. I’m halfway through my term now — I’ve finished 6 courses and have 4 left, so I’m hoping to wrap them up on time. Best of luck to both you and your husband on your journey!

Quick update!
I’ve just finished all 10 of my courses and applied for graduation. My academic advisor mentioned that the conferral process will begin at the end of the session and take around 8+ weeks to complete. I’m now waiting for my diploma with huge excitement!
Next, I plan to earn a few professional certificates to strengthen my career, then apply for master’s programs in Türkiye and Europe. I’ll also start applying for jobs to pursue a company change and move into larger organizations.
Thanks everyone for all the support along the way!
