Gold mine for California students
#1
Here is a list of every community college in California. I am looking at filling some prerequisites for an MBA program, and I've checked the first 20. Every one of them has online courses, some accelerated. Additionally, in-state tuition is a whopping $26 per credit. The other great thing is they share an application through the CCCApply system. You just have to fill out one application which is then saved in the system. Enjoy.

Yes, as far as I know CA has the cheapest tuition for community colleges for in state residents. People b*tch and moan all the time about it. Plus, if you're really poor like me, you can go for free with a waiver. All you have to buy are your books OR you can get even more assistance with special programs. AND you can get a public transportation pass for $15 for the whole semester...compare that to $100 a month for regular folks. I don't see why people complain at all!

Daniellevine,

You've hit on a wonderful resource I've been using to achieve my own education at an extremely reasonable cost.

Instead of searching each individual college, most CA community college districts have their own website that you can search for courses offered by all their member colleges which cuts down the time quite a bit. These are the ones I've used for most of my classes:

Los Angeles Community College District: LAColleges.net: Degree search results at Los Angeles Community Colleges. Register at Los Angeles Community College District - Home Page

San Diego Community College District: http://www.sdccd.edu

South Orange County Community College District: South Orange County Community College District - Welcome!

North Orange County Community College District: Welcome to the NOCCCD

You can google other CA school districts as well.

This resource allows you to find online classes offered by colleges across California, searchable by subject/keyword, degree level, delivery method, term, etc. Please note that this is not limited only to community college courses, but also graduate/professional courses as well: California Virtual Campus » Students » CVC Course Catalog.

Hope this helps! Great post!

This is an excellent resource. Thanks for posting. I think community college courses, particular online ones, are the most underrated resource in education. For those that can get in-state tuition, the course is just as cheap as CLEPs or DANTEs but also includes feedback and tutoring. Additionally the courses are accredited and accepted by every institution in the United States.

As someone who benefited from the low tuition costs in California, my recommendation is to apply early as possible. With the economy in the dumps everyone is heading back to school and courses get slim. Some colleges register you based on either the number of units you have accumulated, with those closer to transferring or graduation getting priority, or they do it based on your student number with the lowest numbers first (been going there the longest).

Everyone is jumping o the financial aid bandwagon because there is a lot more money left over than in other states after tuition costs. So that a good refund of financial aid.

For California Community Colleges there is a fee waiver program "the Board of Governors Waiver" BOG, that waives the tuition fees for low income, then you can still get the financial aid of a pell grant. So that is a few more dollars in the pockets of students.
