Graduate credit by exam
#1
I've seen other credit by exams posted on this site for graduate bussiness clases. I wanted to know if there is any history ACE approved credits. I'm changing my degree plan to military history / WW2 at AMU. I have 3 credits already and plan on taking 12 more this next semester. My goal is to finish by the end of the year and then start a new degree.

What are those CBEs for MBA programs? I have never heard of them. I know you can test out of the prerequisites, but those are undergraduate-level and not apart of the degree program. Some MBA programs might give credit for certifications, but that's not credit by exam.

I think I found the thread you're talking about. I don't think this exam is still ACE-approved. The link in that thread no longer works and I don't see the company in the ACE National Guide. If I'm reading their webpage correctly, they are going to charge $1500 per part for four parts starting January 1. Even if the credential was worth 9 graduate credits, I wouldn't pay $6,000 for them.

The only credit-by-exam that I am aware of is the PMP exam that gives you grad credit at Excelsior.
Denise

MBA - California Coast University - Will complete by 9/30/26
MS - Management and Leadership, WGU 2022
BS - Liberal Arts - Depths in Healthcare and Psychology, Excelsior College 2014
Certificate - Workers Comp Admin, UC Davis Extension, 1995
AA - Licensed Vocational Nursing and Selected Studies, Mesa College 1989
Certificate - Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN), Mesa College 1977

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun.   Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior.  And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

Yeah, I heard about getting credit for the PMP certification, but I don't really consider that credit-by-exam. You have to have a certain number of years of project management experience plus thousands of hours leading and directing projects. I call that credit by certification. LOL.

well, I've never heard of CBE for grad credit. There are some "kinda CBE" exceptions, like the project management cert, and the program over at Eidnburgh, which isn't really even CBE- it's simply an MBA via testing, but it isn't in the USA and I don't know if you could transfer in...besides you have to take the tests in person at one of the USA testing sites- and I think there are only like 7 or so. Edinburgh Business School: Distance Learning MBA and Online Business Courses

I'm all for CBE but I think graduate school is a horse of a different color. All of my classes through both programs are almost entirely based on my written work, no tests yet at all.

I agree. Graduate programs tend to be research-based. Unlike MBA programs, history programs are heavy on writing and research.

12 grad credits is a really big load, even for someone who isn't working, plus APUS is known for a big writing load in its history courses (which is as it should be).

Out of curiosity, how is the workload for 6 credits while holding down a full-time job?

On my list of tests i can take at the Military base i work on it is split into CLEP/DSST/PearsonVUE/Excelsion, under Excelsior College Exams the last two listed are 611 MBA Marketing and 613 MBA Organizational Behavior. Could these be like what he is refering to, or are these proctored exams for online classes? If they are CBE's I might try to give them a shot.

@Irish John, for writing intensive grad courses, I'd say 6 credits is tough but doable. General rule of thumb is that grad courses are 1 1/2 as challenging as undergrad, but, again, that's just a general rule of thumb.
