Help For TESU BACS DEGREE please Brothers

Hi everyone,
I recently applied to Thomas Edison State University for the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science program. My admission is currently in progress, and I have already completed my application and identity verification. I'm now waiting for my official academic evaluation and advisor.
While waiting, I wanted to prepare as much as possible so I can graduate as quickly as possible once everything is finalized.
Based on the current TESU catalog, DegreeForum wiki, Study.com transfer guide, and information from TESU, I created my own Area of Study (AOS) degree map, which I've attached.
My current understanding is:

• Area of Study: 45 credits
  
• Upper-Level Requirement: 18 UL credits
  
• TESU Residency: 15 credits through Accelerated (AC) courses
  
• Additional 15 Regionally Accredited (RA) credits: Planned through TECEP exams
  
• Remaining credits will be completed through transfer providers such as Study.com and UPI.
  

Since my official evaluation is still pending, I know some things may change. However, I don't want to sit idle while waiting. I'd like to start learning the required courses now so that once my evaluation is complete, I can move through my degree as quickly as possible.
Could you please review my degree map and let me know if anything is incorrect or if I'm misunderstanding any of the requirements?
In particular, I'd appreciate feedback on:

1. Whether my Area of Study is mapped correctly.
   
2. Whether my planned 18 upper-level credits make sense.
   
3. Whether the courses I've chosen for the Computer Science electives are appropriate.
   
4. Whether the Natural Sciences, Math, and Computer Science Electives section looks correct.
   
5. If there are any better or easier course choices that would still satisfy the requirements.

You're rushing it a little. We need more info from you on some essential aspects before we can give you better recommendations, because there are different roads that lead to Rome.

First, you said that you're waiting for "official academic evaluation." Give us an understanding of what that implies? Do you already have ACE and / or community college and / or RA credits and / or a foreign degree equivalent to a US Bachelor's / Master's? Are they currently in evaluation? If yes, what exactly? I ask that, because you also need to fill the 30 creds electives section (which equates to 10 courses if every course has 3 creds). In my opinion, if you wanna have a "truly" technical degree, you should fill the 30 credits electives section (independent of your AOS section) with CS / IT / Math creds as well. However, if you don't wanna do that, you need to take another path. However, I'd highly recommend to use the 30 creds electives section to make this degree more "techy."

Second, is money a constraint? If not, I think you will probably spend more cash than most people here. I don't believe you will be able to accelerate through that many and relatively more difficult courses (e.g. Data Structures, Discrete Math, Capstone and so forth in addition to all the other courses you intend to take) each month within a 3 month flat rate term. You will highly likely need 2 terms (each 3 months). However, it really depends on how much knowledge in IT and CS you already have? What is your background? Do you want to take all these CS classes at TESU?

Third, is taking classes at foreign universities an option for you? Metropolia University and University of Helsinki (both Finland) provide courses that transfer in for some of these courses (like Data Structures and Algorithms, Discrete Math, Calculus 1 + 2, C/ C++ / Python  Programming). Those are RA credits and way cheaper than TECEPs and fulfil basically the same thing and look better on a transcript. However, they take longer.

Fourth, if i were you, I would also do some Coursera certs for upper-level courses, which are cheaper in general than Study.com. Personal preference is also a factor.

Fifth, what is your end goal? Do you just wanna have a tech degree or are you really into Computer Science and software engineering? New job or breaking into that industry?

Thus, select 4 UL courses. In your list, you could choose either COS-4510, CIS-3010, CIS-3200, CIS-3110, or CIS-3510. Remember, 12 UL credits, which are 4 courses if every course has 3 credits.

Seventh, your "3. Natural Sciences, Math and CS Electives" is incorrect, because you have 9 credits, but you only need 6. Thus, choose 2 courses, preferably CS or Math to make it more techy, they can be UL but don't have to. However, bear in mind that if you fell short regarding UL creds (for example, you transferred in a course that is 2 UL credits instead of 3 UL credits), you can use that section to compensate and add another course there.

One question: when you mentioned that I only need 12 upper-level credits, are you assuming that the required UL courses such as COS-3300 Computer Architecture and the TESU Capstone already count toward the overall 18 UL requirement in the Area of Study? I had been planning under the assumption that I needed 18 UL credits in addition to those courses, so I'd appreciate your clarification."

Yes, COS-3300 Computer Architecture and the TESU capstone do count toward the overall 18 UL requirements in your AOS. And no, you don't have to plan anything else regarding any other UL credits. If you get all that done, you met all UL requirements for TESU BACS.

Of course, you can still add more ULs if you want to, but it is no longer a necessity.

However, I'd like to point out some details that are rarely mentioned, but may give you some flexibility in terms of UL credits.

In general but rather theoretically, you can meet all your AOS requirements with UL credits only (however, TESU does not accept everything; actually, they accept relatively few options for the 12 AOS electives section). Yet, it is highly unlikely you will ever do this without the need of going first to another school that may provide all of this.

Nonetheless, if you transfer in some RA credits from foreign universities (I don't know any ACE providers that would currently provide this option), you may add some advanced CS courses, such as Data Structures and Algorithms 2, to your AOS required courses section. If you transfer this in, you can also meet your Data Structures requirement in the AOS required section with DSA 2, but the difference is that this DSA 2 course would be an UL course! Hence, you would already meet some of your UL requirements with these types of credits, and you'd have some flexibility so that you wouldn't have to get Computer Architecture as an UL course (1x LL Computer Architecture class would suffice). In other words, if you can compensate deficiencies of one course with the surplus of another in your AOS so that you meet your overall 18 UL requirements, you don't have to strictly follow each specific course LL vs UL detail.

Yet, bear in mind the vast majority of students here don't have the option, because most people here don't get RA credits from foreign schools in the first place. I just wanted to highlight this, because the standard TESU BACS template from the TESU BACS webpage doesn't visualize all possibilities.

The Coursera wiki has numerous certs with a lot of courses within them that can help substitute for many of the necessary UL credits in their respective AOSs for the CS and CIS programs

Listen to Alex' video on the path. He was so super helpful to me in my journey. Between his advice on the attack plan and all the awesome people on the forum, I have all my transfer credits mapped and accepted, and I am working though my last few courses to finish up my BS IT.

I had quite a bit of transfer credit from my first attempt at college 20 years ago, but study.com and coursera became amazing sources of credit for me. (Of course Sophia and others are great too, I was just trying to minimize my subscription spend and worked through all i needed on sdc)

Slightly off-topic, but do you happen to know if these credits from Metropolia and University of Helsinki overall were transferable to US universities (like R1 unis)? Or only TESU would accept these?
