Degree planning advice, please
#1
I have 60 college credits and am thinking of getting the BLS with minor in management based on what I have read here.

Here are my credits (some of these are old, 20+ years)

CLEP
History of US I
Analyzing and INterpreting Lit

College credits:
ECON 201 Macroeconomics, 3 credits
ENG 101 English Comp I, 3 credits
MATH 102 Alegbra II, 3 credits
MATH 120 Pre-Calculus, 4 credits
HIST 102 Western Civ II, 3 credits
PSY 101 Intro to Psy, 3 credits
PHIL 110 Social Ethics, 3 credits
ACCT 142 Financial Acct, 4 credits
BUS 145 Legal Aspects of Business, 3 credits

SL ASL II, 3 credits
PLSC 111 American Govt, 3 credits

LEGL 201 Real Property I, 3 credits
LEGL 221 Litigation, 3 credits
LEGL 241, Wills Trusts 3 credits
LEGL 111 Intro to paralegalism, 3 credits
LEGL202 Real Property II, 3 credits
LEGL 205 Administrative Law, 3 credits
LEGL 110 Legal Ethics, 1 credit

(I do have certifications having to do with ASL interpretation - about 30 CEUs - not sure if this helps me in any way.)

**I think I need to take at Sofia - English Comp II, Intro to Sociology, Microeconomics, Communication at Work, Environmental Science, Art History I
and Intro to biology with Lab and Bus307 at study.com.

So do you think that the UMPI BLS minor Management is the quickest and easiest way for me to get my degree?
If yes, I would love any help figuring out how to finish out those 30 credits before transferring into UMPI (If I understand all of this correctly!)

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Susieq1234, Welcome aboard, that was a great first post and introduction/summary. Yes, the BLS with any minor would work for you, you can get a second if you want, just to finish out the 30 credits. I'd suggest doing exactly as what was recommended on this thread here... Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ed-to-take?

TLDR: Take Sophia.org and skip Study.com (unless you really want to take that one class BUS307), create a spreadsheet as mentioned on that linked thread, you want to use it for reference/tracking purposes of your progress. Take your time reading a few posts and the WIKI also linked in the above thread. Good luck, have fun!

I would NOT take Sophia's English Comp if you're going to go to UMPI. At UMPI, it's a single paper. Sophia has, IIRC, 7 papers. It'll be faster and easier for you to just do the UMPI class.

I don't see any foreign language credits. You'll also need Spanish I from Sophia if you don't have any other credits. If you're fluent in a different language, you could take an ACTFL exam instead.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

**I think I need to take at Sofia
English Comp II - take this at UMPI
Intro to Sociology - SOPHIA
Microeconomics - not required
Communication at Work - not required
Art History I - this covers the same requirement as A&I Lit CLEP, so not required
Bus307 at study.com. - not required
Environmental Science - see below
Intro to biology with Lab - see below

ASL counts as your foreign language IIRC. So you don't need Spanish.

Sophia has added courses since you planned your degree (or the wiki may be out of date, I'm not sure).  You need your Biological & Physical sciences, 1 with lab, so you could take: A) Bio + Lab and then EnvironSci or Chemistry; or B) Chem + Lab and then Bio.

So you have 60cr, then add your sciences and Sociology from Sophia which puts you at 70cr.  You need 20cr more, I'd take the shortest fastest courses possible, with as few papers to write as you can find, to get those 20cr.  They'll all be electives, so you don't have to worry about WHICH ones to take, as long as UMPI grants credit for them.

I would take Project Management and Business Comm at Sophia, just so that those are 2 LL courses you can swap out, because I know there are a certain number of UL credits you need to take at UMPI.

The only caveat is that you need to take 30cr at UMPI, and you have 18cr in the minor plus 6cr in the GEC - and out of those, only 6cr are UL.  So, you're going to have to take more courses than necessary to reach the required number of UL courses.  You might consider getting a 2nd minor in PM, and not taking PM at Sophia, and then that will be 9cr more of UL (and there are 9cr of overlap between those minors so it's only those UL that you'd be needing to take anyway).

Thanks so much for the helpful replies! Here's what I've come up with based on your recommendations...

I guess I need to ask UMPI if they will allow the ASL for the foreign language - got mixed response here on this and when I google'd it, it said some will and some won't... If not, then I will swap Spanish for one of the electives below.

Sofia -
Intro to Sociology
Human Bio w Lab
Environmental Sciences

Then I will take for electives (I heard these are easiest/fastest - please lmk if I'm wrong)
Intro to Business, 3
Visual Communication, 3
Intro to IT, 3
Intro to Web Development, 3
Principles of Finance, 3
Art History I or Business communication, 3
Essentials of managing conflict, 1
Developing effective teams, 1

I think I will consider getting the second minor in PM. I'm really hoping to knock this out in one term.... Thanks again!

Are the ASL certifications ACE recommended? I would think they'd have to be in order to get credit for them. I don't see you actually taking a college course in ALS (which would count as a foreign language at UMPI); unless that that is 'SL ASL II', 3 credits?

No need to ask UMPI about ASL. ASL is one of the foreign languages offered on campus. It will transfer for your foreign language requirement.

Yes ASL II is my ASL course.  I am a hertigage user so I was able to skip ASL I.

OK!  So I now have taken (Sophia):
Intro to Soc, 3
Environmental Science, 3
Human Bio w/lab, 4
Business Communication, 3
Intro to IT, 3
Project Management, 3
Developing Effective Teams, 1
Essentials of Managing Conflicdt, 1
Business Law (finishing up now), 3

I'm thinking of taking a CLEP at Modern States - Principles of Marketing to get the UL credit and then Leading Organizational Change at Study.com...
If I'm mapping this correctly, this will leave me with 10 courses to take at UMPI and should be enough room to get the UL needed in addition to the minor core.  Does this sound right to you guys?

I really want to get the degree in one term as easily as possible as I am also in a mentorship program and also working full time (phew! hopefully this is doable!)

Thanks for all the help so far, I really appreciate it!
