In our case, he is 2 years away from picking a college, so the ALEKS programs are used for his high school math classes (reported to ACE) but CLEP will be for college. Simply not closing any doors at this point.

My take on this is that unless you are going to the Big 3, CLEP is the better bet than transcribing ALEKS. CLEP is accepted by almost 2,900 schools. ACE Evaluated credits are a bit more "tricky."
For the record, I have 2 children using ALEKS, 1 using it for Intermediate Algebra and 1 for Algebra Readiness.

I think this is a great strategy and originally seriously considered doing this to "lock in" the credits myself.

For my kids, since it's still school, I want him doing school. He can, hopefully, rack up some major CLEP/AP/DSST credit as well. Now, if he ends up at one of the big 3, no biggie, but I'm not counting on ACE for anything. (Though we are still using it- he's done several ALEKS and FEMAs)
