How do I calculate GPAs at UMPI?
#1
Specifically, if a student receives grades such as 3.8/4 (Exceeds Proficiency), 3.9/4 (Exceeds Proficiency), and 4/4 (Exceeds Proficiency), would these grades be averaged to a 3.9? Or, based on the policy, would the GPA still be a 4.0, assuming grades of 3.8 and above result in an A/A+?

3.8 and 3.9 are equal to A, while 4 is equal to A+. The overall GPA will be 4.0 in this example.
A and A+ are both 4.0.

This info is in the course syllabus. It's supposed to be in every course syllabus.

A and A+ are both 4.0.

What if someone gets a 3.5/4 "Competency Mastery Score"? That's equal to a B+, but the range of B+ is 3.40-3.59

So what's the CGPA of someone getting a "Competency Mastery Score" of 3.5 (B+), 4 (A+), and 4 (A+)?

A B+ is usually around 3.3 in GPA terms, so 4.0 + 4.0 + 3.3 gives you a GPA of 3.77 (rounded up from 3.7666666).

GPA chart:

Letter Percentage GPA
A+ 97–100% 4.0
A 93–96% 3.9
A− 90–92% 3.7
B+ 87–89% 3.3
B 83–86% 3.0
B− 80–82% 2.7
C+ 77–79% 2.3
C 73–76% 2.0
But the YP grade scale says 3.40 to 3.59 for a B+, that's why I'm quite confused.....

You're mixing up the YP chart with the GPA chart. They are different. I had a typo in my scale btw. A is 4.0 in GPA terms for UMPI.

Does it mean that if I score 3.5 in my finals, which falls in the range of 3.40 to 3.59, which means a B+, in GPA terms, it's 3.3, right?
