I'm taking what could be my last exam this Thursday. The business policy tecep, I don't know if I am fully ready yet but I took the day off so we shall see.
I read the whole book plus QuickMBA: Accounting, Business Law, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Marketing, Operations, Statistics, Strategy and the strategic management section of the portable MBA book.
Wish me luck cause I need it.

gl, I'm curious as to what this test is like. It's one of those that I've got a big "?" when looking over my degree plan.

I finished the test today. It was not hard and I finished in just over an hour.
I did study a lot, about two weeks off and on. The test comes right out of the book so read the whole book and understand the main concepts and you will be fine.
Know the three steps in creating a core competency, the definition of a fragmented market, amoral, immoral, moral, managers, ways to diversify, reasons for doing a merger, ways a merger can fail, ways an alliance can fail, why you might not need an alliance, steps to implement a strategy, barriers to entry and how to identify one from a list.
Pretty straightforward, i used quickmba.com and the recommended text. I read the chapters, took the practice test on the web and reread chapter summaries today before testing. Know diff between vision and mission.

I have heard that this particular exam included having to write some essays. Is this still the case? If so, can you provide any feedback on how to best prepare? I have to take this exam before graduating.

I would also like to know more about this exam. I have to take this exam sometime this year. Any info, tips (for TECEP's) etc. would be appreciated.

Read the book cover to cover minus the case studies.
Then study the book. Reading is not the same as studying.
I studied by rereading the key points section of each chapter and noting concepts that kept coming up. Read quickmba.com's strategy page.
Make sure you can rattle off the 5 basic strategies, 3 steps to creating a competitive advantage etc. There are a few numbered lists you will encounter in the book. You may be asked some of these on the test.
The test wasn't that hard if you have read the whole book, quickmba and tried to memorize just a few lists. I made a mnemonic device out of the competitive strategy list to make it easier to remember. I then jotted it down when i started the test before it left my brain. That question was on my test so it was worthwhile.

Which edition of the book do you recommend for this exam? I looked amazon.com, and the 2007 edition is really cheap compared to 2009. Also, how do you prepare for the essay part of the exam? Where the questions and essay prompts hard?
Thanks

Get the 2007 version. The essays are not too hard but you need to know some topics in bullet point form. If you see bullet points try to remember some of them. Jot them down and go over them. Go get the book and read it cover to cover and check out quickmba.com.
I had to know steps in creating a core competency for the essay.cant remember other questions now.
