How much will a BSBA now cost at TESU?
#11
dfrecore Wrote:Starting from scratch, using a combination of free courses (Ethics, PLA, TEEX), ALEKS, Saylor, SL, CLEP, DSST, minimal TECEP's (Strategic Management, Business in Society, Liberal Arts Math because it's easy), and one MAR or FIN course that I slotted at $250, but could come in for less if you used a TECEP - I show that you are right at $5,000. It was $3,000, with the 8 TECEP's for residency, but now is the $2000 Residency Waiver amount more.

You could save some money by doing additional SL courses in a month (I put all SL courses at $100, but that could easily go down). I also looked at taking 24 courses (72cr) through study.com with the $990 special, that actually is more expensive by $200, only because you're replacing Saylor & free courses to try to take advantage of the deal.

Anyway, $5000-ish is your cost for an entire BSBA, starting with nothing and finishing with graduation fees.

How did I know you would be the one to do this? :p

bjcheung77 Wrote:Thanks for the breakdown of these details, from the looks of things, TESU wanted to charge "fees" similar to what the others COSC and Excelsior charges. And this is because they have upgraded to University status.

If my quick calculation is correct, COSC with their two capstone and cornerstone courses are , App $75, Service $257, Grad $205, Cap/Corner $2178 = $2715 and courses you transfer in, say $3000 = $5715.
https://www.charteroak.edu/catalog/curre...t_fees.cfm

Excelsior is as follows, App $100, Enroll $1065, Student $495/yr, Grad $495, Capstone $1530, and if you also transfer in say $3,000, total should be $6685
Excelsior College | Excelsior College Costs & Financing for Undergraduate Students

I couldn't find a comparable program for COSC. But, this one looks pretty close to TESU Gen Man,
https://my.excelsior.edu/c/document_libr...upId=78666

Side Note: I highly recommend whoever is wanting to apply, do so and be enrolled before May 25, to skip the 1 credit cornerstone course, and you have 1 less thing to worry about and also save $300.

I think TESU added the cornerstone because it's a university now, but the tuition plans were changed because the Enrolled Options Plan lost popularity, and the Per Credit Tuition Plan had a huge loophole that they didn't expect people to take advantage of.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the other approach they could have taken, raising the fees for TECEPs and PLAs would have been much worse. At least this way, you can feel free to continue to use those options if they are what you need/want...and skip them entirely if they aren't.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I'm only taking one PhD course. After that, I'll just have the dissertation. The TECEPs are spread out across three terms, but as you know, TESU's terms start monthly. I'll probably end up taking the first one at the very end of the term. The NMJC course isn't too bad. CC courses are usually easy. I may have given myself too much to do by signing up for the Straighterline courses, but I'm hoping to knock those out over several hours of concentrated study.

Excuse the sloppy formatting, and I didn't check the math. The new Saylor courses really help to save money. I can't remember if the Corporate Communication course from Saylor will fulfill the Managerial Communication requirement. I didn't try to avoid difficult courses and tests other than precalculus and calculus, but those courses from ALEKS and Saylor, respectively, will save even more money.

Written Communication (6) – CLEP Composition $100
Oral Communication (3) – DSST Public Speaking $100
College Algebra or Quantitative Business Analysis (3) – ALEKS $20
Information Literacy (3) – CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature or Intro to World Religions $100
Diversity (3) – Any qualifying CLEP or DSST $100
Ethics (3) - Insurance Institute $0 (only 2 credits, will need exception)
Civic Engagement (3) – CLEP American Government $100
Human Cultures (9) – Saylor Introduction to Western Political Thought, Comparative Politics, and Intro to Psychology and Intro to Sociology combined for 3 credits or any combination of humanities or social science courses $100
Natural World (4) – ALEKS Intermediate Algebra $20
Saylor Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology $25
Mathematics (3 credits of statistics plus 3 more credits) – ALEKS Statistics and Intermediate Algebra $40
GE Electives (15 credits) – Saylor General Chemistry, Intro to Mechanics, Intro to Electro Magnetism, and Environmental Ethics $100
Kaplan Documenting Experience (3) $0
Gen Ed Total = $805

Principles of Marketing – Saylor $25
Principles of Finance – DSST $100
Business in Society or International Management – TECEP $114
Macroeconomics – Saylor $25
Microeconomics – Saylor $25
Managerial Communications – Saylor Corporate Communications $25
Strategic Management – TECEP $114
Business Core Total = $642

General Management Specialization (18 credits with 12 UL)
Management Information Systems DSST $100
Human Resources DSST $100
Organizational Management DSST $100
Money and Banking DSST $100
Federal Income Taxation TECEP $114
Any other UL Business TECEP or Public Relations Thought and Practice TECEP $114
Free Electives (6) – TEEX (three courses for 6 credits) $0 or a mix of free, ACE-Approved NFA courses
Specialization Total = $628

Required Cornerstone = $300
Residency Waiver Fee = $2,000
Application Fee = $75
Graduation Fee = $323
ACE Transcript = $40
Total = $4,813

Edited to add missing math course, but it comes out cheaper.

Oh, yeah. And, I didn't see that psychology is only 2 credits. Let me edit it again.

Oh, I didn't notice that about psych either.

I wonder just how generous TESU would be with waiving credits for three courses (soc, psych, ethics).

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm butchering your plan. I finally got a chance to look at it. Are you sure that the TEEX course can be used in gen ed? SL Managerial Accounting will cost $148 rather than $111 unless you have a coupon code, but that's not a guaranteed thing. Did you mean TECEP? Also, all of the TECEPs are now $114 rather than $111. I saved money on my plan by replacing the CLEPs (or SL) for macro and micro with the Saylor courses. You also have the SL Courses listed at $100 each. I saved money on computer concepts by using Saylor instead of DSST, but the DSST should be taken over the CLEP you recommended since it's easier. In the general management area of study, you listed more SL courses as $100. You can also save money on marketing or finance tests by taking TECEPs instead of Uexcel, CSU Global CBE, or a PF course.
