I think I'm ready to give this test the old college try. I got a 25/50 on the DSST practice test and that's with skipping 16 questions completely didn't even try to answer. I guess my score would have been a 29/50 if i used go old reliable C on those 16 questions. Do i stand a chance?

I would not recommend thinking a chance, studying is what gives you a passing score.

I hate to fail so for me I wouldn't think of doing it unless i knew i would pass. That's why i did aleks stats. Aleks takes more time but you learn and practice and test out in one at home online process so for the more cautious of us, it's a great alternative with less anxiety.

I looked at using Aleks and the only problem is that the Air Force would not accept it for my Community College for the Air Force (CCAF) degree. I just could not study any more stats, I hit an impasse and could not wrap my head around it any more. i was getting burned out and it was the last test i needed for my A.A.S. in Criminal Justice so i went to the test center paid my 20 bucks bit my lips and closed my eyes and hoped for the Best.
Well i passed it today with a 453. out of the 97 questions half i knew (or at least i think i knew) the rest i fell back of god old reliable "C". never underestimate the power of the curve on the Princ. of Statistics test. Hard test but if can be done even if a few months ago you didn't know the first thing about stats.
Now I am off to pursue a B.S. in Liberal studies and to set fire to all statistics related material i have in my possession.

Awesome man! I freaked out and did ALEKs and received 6 credits for it at TESC due to princ of stats and business stats so it was worthwhile but if I were going to a school which didn't recognized ACE, then I would have done DSST.

Congrats on passing!!! I'm going to take the test next week. Can anyone give me some friendly advice on what to focus my studies on? There are tons of formulas and I'm having a hard time memorizing them all. Thanks for all your help and congrats again!!!!!

Without knowing what you know and don't know this is the advise i will give you
go to
Khan Academy and watch the videos on
Probability: up to Expected Value of Binomial Distribution
and
Statistics: try to get half way through all the videos
that will get you a good understanding of the basics of statistics also there is a video series call "against all odds" you may want to watch as many as you can but it is very watered down more theory and less math
Last but not least pay five bucks and take the official practice exams at
http://www.getcollegecredit.com/and SKIP all questions you don't understand, that show you where you are deficient and what you need to study. Then during the real test when you reach a question you don't know/ understand/ can't make an educated guess then go with "C", and remember "There is no spoon"
