How to find out what courses transfer and to what at TESC
#1
I am not a student at TESC, but hope to be there eventually. I'm interested in the courses through Propero, but I don't know how they'll transfer. As a non-student, how do I find out.

Thomas Edison is kinda dickish about giving you a straight answer to course equivalents, even when you are enrolled.

Bascially, there is no way to find out as an unenrolled student unless someone else here has posted the equivalents.
The ACE registry will tell you "generally" what they "should" transfer as, but as for the exact course at TESC, there's
no way to know for sure unless you transfer it in and have it evaluated by the TESC bureaucrats. Even then, you may
have to argue with them about it.

I know, I know, you'd assume that a civilization that went to the moon would have a clear and easy to understand
listing of "this class = this class" on TESC's website, but unfortunately you're dealing with the same state that brought
you "Jersey Shore".

Maybe someone else has Propero experience?

While the Propero website claims to have ACE accreditation for courses, I did not find the organization or courses in the ACE registry.
ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training | Find a Course or Exam

Without being regionally accredited or ACE approved, TESC will not transcribe the credits. There is a Pearson reference at the bottom of the Propero page, and Pearson Education, IN is listed in the ACE registry, but I would call or email ACE to see if they are the same organization before investing any time or money, or get some kind of clarification on who they are and confirm their status before seriously considering.

Yes, they are part of Pearson. Someone on this site has already taken a class with them and Intro had their scores sent to ACE.

Maybe I should stick with Penn Foster courses until more people have used Propero. I cannot afford a $300 mistake anytime soon.
#6
They might not be a mistake. Just because no one has done it yet does not mean it is not a good option, and their pricing is comparable with PF. The only caution is to call ACE and make certain the site you're looking at is the authentic site. There are a handful of sites that may try to mimic others to scam money. One site I was on yesterday looked a little questionable, but it may just be an underdeveloped service that did not get a bit web design budget. A call or email to ACE can help answer how to reach the authentic service in their credit listing.

Pearson is a more recognized name than Penn Foster, so if it is the same source ACE will recommend, TESC should honor it in some form. They do often stick closely to ACE's recommendation (i.e., 3 UL credits in...etc) so read the recommendation from the ACE website (not the source you're thinking about taking the course through), confirm sources with ACE, and give it a shot. If it is that Pearson listing on the ACE service, their credits are pretty new so you should not be facing the potential hazard of ACE pulling recommendation, as is risked with many Penn Foster courses. ACE personnel are very friendly and helpful; a quick call should be fairly painless to answer authenticity questions.

I'm sure they will get it worked out once they evaluate it further they seem to take their time with these things.

And as a person from the "Jersey Shore" I am not lumped into the Cliche. Jersey gets a bad rap from the people that vacation there, not the locals. Locals are disgusted with the negativity that the show has brought to the state. But if you know the show, the cast (with the exception of one person) is from Jersey, the rest live else where.

But I digress......I'm sure TESC will get it worked out soon. I hope so because this seems like a great alternative. :o

TESC does not follow ACE credit recommendations when it comes to granting UL/LL credit. If TESC offers a course or already has it in its PLA database, then any transfer course that matches will be given UL or LL status based on the TESC/PLA course it matches. For example, TESC gives UL credit for the Principles of Marketing CLEP because TESC offers the course at the UL. ACE says that it should be LL. ACE says that the Intro to Criminal Justice DSST should be UL, which is weird by the way since Intro to CJ is almost always LL. TESC counts it as LL because it offers an Intro to Criminal Justice course that is LL. TESC applies this same procedure of evaluating to all transfer credit; that's why TESC will give UL credit for community college courses.
