Human Resources bachelor degree
#1
My SO is seriously considering a bachelor degree. She has been in healthcare for 17 or so years. Currently a clinic manager in a hospital system.

Lives in TX. Has a couple of TX associate degrees. Has worked in HR and liked it. Figures HR-type courses will keep her interested and motivated. The TAMUC OrgLead isn't HR, but after looking through the required courses she thinks it might be close enough.

Her employer offers tuition rembursement, but it's not much, the process sucks, and if you don't stay X time you owe it back. She'll probably file FAFSA but not expecting anything.

She has only done lower-level junior college work. No alt credit. Thinks maybe she could only complete 2 or 3 courses per 7-week term. So maybe she could do up to 12 courses in 5 terms, possibly in 4?

Applied to TAMUC last night and ordered her JuCo transcript.

Transcript shows 112 credits earned. 3 credits per course unless otherwise noted.

What other options do you see for an HR or leadership-type bachelor degree? She didn't seem too interested in the UMPI Management & Leadership concentration, but I think I'll try to get her more info. She thinks TESU looks too challenging and expensive.

Did she look at the TESU plan on the wiki or just the TESU site itself? The HR degree from TESU isn't that expensive and will be about as difficult as any other degree. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...egree_Plan
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

TESU's HR degree is a business degree with an HR concentration - I think this is a good option. But it just depends on what job she wants. I would spend some time looking at jobs out there that she would like, and see what they are asking for. If they want a Business degree, then go with TESU. If they want any sort of management/HR/leadership degree, then go with TAMUC since it will prob be cheaper and she gets the added bonus of school name-recognition.

She went to the TESU site and has not yet seen the wiki. I'll point her to the wiki.

The jobs she sees generally want business, HR, or related degrees. So BSBA with HR, leadership, or mgmt concentration would work well. The bigger issue is she wants to take courses in line with her likes, which I think means staying away from accounting, finance, etc. We'll see what TAMUC comes back with, look at TESU a little deeper, and maybe she'll want to have them do an eval. $50 app, right? She just has the one transcript and I think it was $5.

I went with a general business degree with HR-focused electives so I had more career options later on. HR jobs often care more about experience and certifications than the specific degree title.

Basically, that's all you need and my recommendation as well... A general business degree with an emphasis/focus on HR if possible, even just a few classes on HR. Work on the certs, degree, experience...

I went with a Human Resources degree too, and adding a shrm membership made a big difference for me. It gave me access to templates, tools, and up-to-date info I used in assignments and now at work. I joined while I was still in school with the student discount, and it helped me get a better feel for what HR work really looks like day-to-day.
