I passed Business Policy!
#1
I still don't have the score but I had ordered a score report for Excelsior when I learned that my exam was scored and it just went on my status report as a pass!!!

I am so pleased, I had serious doubts that I would be passing and had such terrible handwriting I'm surprised they were even able to decipher my answers. I am also so relieved that I don't have to take the course, it's such a huge weight off my back.

The feedback section was spot on but I didn't get the chance to take full advantage of the listed information. I think I had put it in less than a week of study and didn't get to practice at all, no case studies, no handwritten essays. To anyone who's planning on taking the exam (not Excelsior's students I suppose), I would seriously take the advice in the Business Policy feedback word for word, it would simply make it very difficult not to pass.

The fact that most of the exams that I've taken in the past few years had all been multiple choice really spoiled me. When I got to the 5 short answers section, I was like "Oh cr*p! Oh cr*p! Oh cr*p! Ah, I can do this one! Oh cr*p!". I actually preferred to work on the 3 essays and went back to the short answers afterwards. I am very confident that if this was a multiple choice exam in its entirety I would've easily scored in the 90s. It's not that the questions were difficult, they were very reasonable. Telling right from wrong is one thing, and saying it all off the top of your head is something totally different, especially when you have to enumerate a list of plausible answers for one question.

Although I had the two recommended textbooks, I ended up using Essentials of Strategic Management, 4th Edition, Prentice Hall, for an easy quick read. It's actually a summary of the second recommended book. It's about 140/160 pages if you don't go through the introduction to case analysis section (total of 200 pages). I had originally bought the international version (printed in India) and winded up buying the online version as the printed one had a strong chemical smell to it which made it all too distracting (not to mention worrying). I followed up with a quick browse through Crafting and Executing Strategy. I would say the exam relies more on the terms and concepts in the latter, too bad I didn't spend much time reading through that one. I also regret not having the time to go over all the points in the feedback and testing myself by rewriting the information down to test my readiness. That would have saved me a lot of agony on the day of the exam and would have surely helped me ace it. Anyways, it's all behind me now and I've never been happier to say a pass is a pass. Five more subjects and I'm done.

I have that classic feeling of being so close, yet so far away...
