I took this history clep using IC exclusively and got a 46 when I needed a 50 and I passed all the little practice quizzes on here and studied for a couple of weeks and hardly any of the questions on the test were anything like the questions that I had studied. I need to know if my $20 a month going to waste or what? Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm sorry to hear you failed.
I love InstantCert but I always use another source, like an REA book, and I always take practice tests.
My best advise would be to chalk this one up as a learning experience, pick another exam and try again.

I never rely on IC exclusively. I always use other sources to cement the subject area.

Really? You want the test questions? Sorry, wrong kind of site. IC is a study aid. Like any book, video, website. IMO, it's best to pull from a few sources- but a lot of people her don't! There are scores of people who only use IC. (I'm a little too paranoid to go that route, so I tended to use a few of the recommended sources) If you went through the flashcards, and the answers, and the specific exam feedback ---> made sure you knew everything in the thread, you would have been better prepared. Not a slam, a fact.
Sorry you failed, I failed one too. It happens. For me, it was a kick in the pants not to take any exam for granted. Chalk it up as a learning experience, and if it makes you feel any better, I found the US History 1 test to be pretty tough! I studied for that one a really long time. Lotssssss to cover for that one. Many years, many presidents, many events, many wars, many civil issues....it's a lot to learn.

Hi grasshopper,
Many of us have had a failed exam. I agree with Cook, you started with a hard one. In my opinion it might be best to start in an area where you might have some experience. My third test was the one that I failed...intro to psych...i didn't spend enough time on it because I thought it was going to be easy. Well I got hit with the brain test...instead of questions about psychologists I got a bunch of brain and central nervous system questions that I was not prepared to answer. Please note there are different versions of the exams. Also you gain insight from the specific feedback area but your test may be different so you cannot rely on every hint showing up on your exam.
Not sure of your needs but maybe try one of the computer exams COS-101 (DSST or CLEP) and or the Intro to Sociology CLEP. They are great exams to get a feel for the tests. If you have decent computer skills why not study and take one of the computer exams. The sociology exam is also very doable. I took them both in December/January and used IC only for the computer exam as a brush up and supplemented the sociology flashcards with an audio outline of a textbook (purchased super cheap on amazon prob $5). Chin up and get back in the game..!! I'm sure you will do well on your next exam!! Good luck!!!
Here are some general websites for you to review. There are great threads on the forum that have tons of information for you to add to your information chest.
You can retake the history exam in 6mos.

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.
Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice)
Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams
Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS.
Note you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.
Something Else To Know
FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The hight possible is an 80.
FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.
THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.
60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts
If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts
You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.
30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.
Now:If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.
By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.
