Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is a no go for Straigterline ACE Credits

Just a heads up, if you are wanting to use ACE credits from straighterline.com at Ivy Tech they will absolutley refuse to award you credit for them. I was hoping to use straighterline for College Algebra, Finanical Accounting, Biology, Intro to Business, and Macroeconomics.

I don't know how cost effective it would be for you but you could always have the SL courses credit banked at one of the "big three", and then have them send a transcript to Ivy Tech CC.

That will probably not work. The transcripts will either denote that the credits come from ACE or SL.

But Ivy Tech does accept Excelsior exams. You can try to pass them and then transfer those credits in. As for Intro to business take DSST, and they will also give you credit for this course.

There are MANY schools that are a "no-go" for ACE. The thing about the ACE list that is floating around, is that it implies that if a college is on it, that they take all ACE credit. The reality is that they MAY take a specific type of ACE credit for a specific program and nothing more. For instance, my local CC accepts ACE credit. What they accept is a carpentry class toward the carpentry program. Nothing else, yet they are on "the list."
If you want wide acceptance of exam credit, you need to use CLEP, DSST, and AP. I'm a fan of ACE options if you know ahead of time where you're going, because then you're not wasting time/money. Of course we use some ACE options in our homeschool (ALEKS math, SL), but always with the understanding that they might not transfer later. My son earned 33 credits in high school/homeschool, yet only 3 will transfer into the CC he is attending. In your case, you may want to attempt the CLEPs associated with those classes you took. I know, pain in the rear.

The vast majority of schools don't accept SL, its still very much a niche application. I doubt that will ever change much really.

Will they always denote the credits source? Even if you enroll, get an eval. done, and have courses transcribed and such??

So an official TESC transcript will always read,(for example) Straighterline Macroeconomics 101??

I don't know of any exception to this...for awhile there was a single school in Kansas that would allow you to "wash" a course in this manner, but to my knowledge that loophole has been closed and there is no credit laundering solution. It's really an issue of academic integrity for the schools and while it may be inconvenient, it also helps to maintain the validity of an accredited degree program.

Is it a common occurrence to reject credits that fit your intended degree plan?

My plan was to take a bunch of cleps and SL, add them to my TESC credit bank, and then have a transcript sent to my local community college. I was a tad bit nervous with this strategy but I honestly expect(ed) a New Jersey CC to accept all my credits from TESC. Now I'm scared my plan is falling apart.

I would really vet that plan with the target CC...I doubt its going to work as you describe (I don't know near enough about the NJ system to comment specifically). The Big 3, TESC included are rather unique in their broad acceptance of credit from various streams (and their incredibly low residency requirement)...its what makes them the big three.

Credit banking is simply placing credit on a single transcript...its still gonna show where that credit came from. If the target CC won't take SL or ACE directly paying TESC to put it on a list isn't likely to change that. The local CC here in Florida wouldn't even accept FEMA cycled through Frederick CC...just not the way the operation works.
