Job Offers Free College
#1
So a restaurant chain franchise near me (local) has a program where you get FREE college at one certain school. All you need to do is be employed 30 days and average 15hrs a week and keep that while employed. You have to go to this one certain school. But the school accepts 90 ACE credit (i think) and is a straighterline and sophia partner. They seem transfer friendly at least.
They offer 50% off tuition of traditional students (they define as starting 4 yrs or less from HS graduation or anyone who lives in the on campus housing) and also spouses, children, step-kids, of employees are eligible for this discount too. And this can be combined with Federal Pell Grant and outside scholarships (like say you get a scholarship from a community foundation). But it can't be combined with an academic/athletic scholarship offered directly from the college.
Nontraditional students get 100% covered (after grants so you won't get paid to go to school). And you still have to pay a small fee of like $200 dollars every semester and books (unless you got outside scholarships that cover these)
Not bad though. I guess jsut keep your eyes peeled there could be ways to get a degree cheaper than you think depending on the job. Not all places advertise this stuff.

I wonder if they require the employees to fill out their FAFSA. Otherwise, given a 100% tuition coverage, it would make sense to save the grant money in case you needed it later.

With CLEP/AP, Dual Enrollment, and tuition assistance/reimbursement from part/full time jobs, undergrad can be more affordable to those in HS or just joining the rest of us into the workforce... If finances are tight, look for ways to stretch that tuition dollar with whatever means you can, financial aid can be mainly grants you take, or at least the subsidized amounts, keep the non subsidized amounts out of the picture...

Yeah, my employer does something similar, except you're on the hook for a year of employment for every semester they cover. The years of service can overlap to some degree, so it ends up being 18 months of service for every year they cover, but I still decided against it, despite it being an R1 flagship.

It's only for undergrad and, back when I was doing undergrad, I decided I'd rather pay out of pocket at UMPI than have to leave my job for X reason and be on the hook for $60,000.

Yours sounds like a better arrangement.
