Job market for online adjuncts in math/physics
#1
I know that multiple people on these forums teach online as adjuncts. How would you characterize the job market for math/physics? I know that most online schools do not focus on math/physics heavy programs.

Online teaching programs are more suitable for common skill-based courses than advanced ones. Think about it, if you encounter a very difficult math problem or a complicated physics principle, when teaching online you cannot fully meet the needs of learners such as communication skills, expression and especially time.

In my experience, online teaching of advanced mathematics can be very efficient. Indeed, the main component of mathematics education is practice and working on problem sets on your own. There is no need for labs unlike in physics and natural science.

All you really need to be a successful math student:
(i) Textbook
(ii) Detailed study-guide
(iii) Feeback on homework to make sure you understand stuff
(iv) Somebody to ask if you get stuck
(v) Lectures might also help to provide structure

You might have better luck finding adjuncts on the sister board, degreeinfo.com. They have a sub-board focused just on teaching.
