Looking for an option to take Earth Science or Geology with Lab online/correspondence
#1
Can anyone recommend a school where Earth Science or Geology can be taken online with a lab component? I found one in Canada called Athabasca where they send you a kit of rocks and minerals with the course and it qualifies for 4 credit hours with lab. Its expensive though! Over $1000!!! Any other suggestions would be appreciated. DSST Geology doesn't count for lab at this school.....

its only 3 credits, and I've never taken this course, so I know nothing about it

but if you click on the Materials tab it does say they send you a mineral kit

GEOL 101: Introduction to Geology - BYU Independent Study - Online Courses

the 3 credits may be a problem though, most lab courses are 4 credits,so I don't know if your school will accept it

This is all I could find that offered the course you're looking for with the lab component. I had trouble finding the tuition amount.

Central Texas College offers a 4-credit Physical Geology course, but it might be expensive for non-Texas students.

New Mexico Junior College has it (Geology) with Lab. Should be under $400. New Mexico Junior College - Distance Learning GE114 Physical Geology

Looks like you fulfill the lab with "virtual" field trips NMJC Course Syllabus

New Mexico is one of those states that takes its geology serious. Plenty of mining and geological exploration going on...this is probably a GREAT school to take this course.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

As Bluebooger mentioned, lab science courses are almost universally 4 credits. 3 credits in the class with an accompanying 1 credit lab. You can double check, but I'm almost certain the three hour BYU course will cause you trouble down the road.

Be sure whatever/wherever you choose as acceptable to your final/home institution.
