Oh I'm here and enjoying the discussion! This really is something that I want to do but, somebody on this thread mentioned that I would have the potential to be called back at any point after my service is over. If that is true I will not sign up. I feel free to join now because I have no one depending on me for anything but if I got out got married etc I don't want that possiblity hanging over my head.

Yes, you may be recalled to service. So what? If your reason for joining is purely serving your country, I would think most warriors and guardians of American Liberty would chomp at the bit to climb back into uniform if their country really needed them.

Am I not right??? At least, that's how it used to be.

I hope you don't join the Corp, or Service as a resume builder for a future in politics, we do not need anymore John Murthas running around.

The Corp is for the motivated " No Pain, No Gain " red meat crowd, as the Air Force is for the " Hey I am a Vegetarian " and it is 4:00 PM and I am off work.

I am still in the Air Force as a Bio-Environmental Engineer, I do air sampling and water testing for total coli-form, not living in a fox-hole.

But the the Air Force does have Para-Rescue and Air Combat Controllers, which are "Very Elite" they go through about 2 years of training before going out into the "Real World".

One of our controllers was just awarded an Air Force Cross for valor in Afghanistan, it is the Medal under the Medal Honor awarded for valor.

Do your research and filter through the spin, But join for the RIGHT REASONS!
