Hi Folks:
Mostly, I type to you tonight just to vent, but if anybody has some insight they want to share, it would be gratefully accepted!
So, I am a RN with an Associate's Degree, I also have some other college credits. I feel it's time to move up, so I contacted EC and TESC, paid my money and had my transcripts sent. I got my Transcript Evaluations back from both institutions, and rather than decreasing my confusion, I feel like it's worse!
Here are a few questions I have: Why does TESC accept some credits that EC doesn't? TESC accepted a 5 credit Microbiology class, but EC is withholding their decision until after enrollment. I am not a fellow who curses, but...WTF?
I also read ECs "Student's Guide to Credit by Examination" but can't figure out what CLEP classes (if any) can meet the holes in my education:
Info Literacy
Expository Writing
Upper level Ethics
"Additional Humanities" (3 cr)
"Sciences Supportive of Nursing" (2 cr)
"Additional Natural Sciences/Mathematics" (4 cr)
Arts and Sciences Electives (12 cr)
As to TESC, again, I can't figure out what classes meet what requirements. TESC says I need:
Humanities (12 cr.)
Natural Scieneces/Math that's not Stats, Microbiology, or A&P(3 cr)
Then later it says "General Ed electives: 12 hours from Humanities, Social Sciences Natural Sciences or Math" Are these 12 different than the "Humanities" 12credits? Could I just somehow rack up 24 hours in Humanities and knock out both requirements?
To me the number of credits each place requires is about the same, but I wish I could by the person who filled this out lunch and have them go over it with me.
I dunno...It probably makes all kinds of sense to the person who wrote it, but it kind of leaves me in the dark!
Anyway, I'll get it sorted out eventually...The question is how many Tylenol will I need to get it all done? Thanks for reading and letting me vent, everyone.
Stay Safe,
AGreyMan

Yes, TESC is kind of vague sometimes. They mean fill up 12 hours in Humanities, and get 3 hours in NatSci/Math with exceptions as noted above. You should ask them about the discrepancy on doubling your humi credits -- that sounds wrong but I'm not an expert so don't quote me. You should contact them.
Check out these PDFs put together by the folks here, listing all known sources of "alternative" credit and their equivalent TESC course numbers.

TESC is a Jersey school, so you might have more luck threatening to sic your brother Jimmy Thumbs on them. milelol:

For TESC these publications may also help:
Degree Planning Handbook - begin pg 10 describes subject areas: http://www.tesc.edu/files/DegreePlanningHandbook.pdf
College Catalog (193-194) http://www.tesc.edu/files/Catalog2011.12.pdf lists dantes/clep exams you can take to fill each section.
To answer your question, yes, what fills the general ed section (although the same subjects) is a different batch of courses than what is in your humanities, social science or natural science/mathematics sections.
Here are some examples:
So under humanities (12) you could take
CLEP LIT 291/292 A&I Literature (6cr)
CLEP HUM 101/102 Humanities General (6cr)
Natural Sciences
DSST COS-101 Introduction to Computing (3cr) OR CLEP COS-101 Info Systems & Computer Applications (3cr)
General Education = Any CLEP or DSST exam that is from Humanities, Social Science, or Natural Science/Math areas
CLEP LIT 111/112 American Literature (6cr)
CLEP LIT 208/209 English Literature (6cr)

Good luck!

Hi!
Info Literacy - consider EC course, Penn Foster or LSU course
Expository Writing - The options will be explained in the school catalog. They should include ECE (exam) or SL course(s).
Upper level Ethics - Find out if a DSST exam will count; there might be an ECE also.
"Additional Humanities" (3 cr) - Consider A&I Lit CLEP.
"Sciences Supportive of Nursing" (2 cr) - Not sure; check the school catalog.
"Additional Natural Sciences/Mathematics" (4 cr) - There are several CLEP/DSST or ALEKS (math) choices. Microbiology class may fit here.
Arts and Sciences Electives (12 cr) - This means anything that is Humanities, Social Science, History, Math, or Natural Science.
Hope this helps!

As you wrap your brain around it, feel free to ask more questions. Almost everyone here has completed or is completing a degree at EC or TEC. Once you get a handle on whats what, you'll have no trouble getting through either school.

There's quite a few TESC degree plans on the wiki. These are the actual plans completed by people who graduated from there, some with mostly test-outs and others with a large mix of transfers and tests.
