TESU BALS, is the emphasis written on the transcript?
#1
Hey guys,

I'm considering finishing another bachelor before going into the master, I'm not that far to either the BACS and the BALS in CS, the thing is, there are 3 more difficult courses with the BA, Calculus, discrete math and operating system, which could put me back 6 months vs the BALS,

While the BALS, I could complete most of the requirements in the next month then take Computer Architecture and Data structure at the same time.

That being said, I was wondering if the BASL show the emphasis on the transcript?

Is it:

Bachelor of Art, Liberal Studies

or:

Bachelor of Art, Liberal Studies in Computer Science?

Thank you!

Hey, I haven't graduated yet from TESU, but from seeing screenshots of people who finished their BSBA degree, for example, the Area of Study or concentration should show one line underneath the degree.

The transcript should show Bachelors of Arts Liberal Studies and underneath, Concentration Computer Science.
On the Parchment, it should just show Bachelor of Arts Liberal Studies.

Goals: TESU BSBA GM (Added CIS) and BA Computer Science
BSBA GM - Added CIS AOS (CIS & GM completed)
BACS & Grad Plans (BACS instead of BALS w/NSM)

AAS ACS & ESST: Remaining - Associate Capstone
ASNSM CS: Completed, ASNSM Math: Remaining - Calculus I

Taking a majority of credits at Sophia.org, SL, and Study.com to finish these degrees
Updating my courses remaining by following forum advice, guide, spreadsheet & wiki

The degree doesn't show your concentration, but the transcript does.

Are we 100% sure tho?

Because it's a bachelor of arts, so it could be:

Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Art
Area of Study: Liberal Studies
WGU MS ITM, 2021.
TESU BACS, 2020.
TESU BSBA, 2018.
TESU ASNSM in Computer Science, 2018.

I'm 100% sure of what mine say because they are on my desk in front of me as I type this. Wink

My DEGREES say "Associate of Arts" and "Bachelor of Arts" and my transcripts say:
Degree awarded: Associate in Arts
Area of Study: Liberal Arts/General Studies
(date)
Degree awarded: Bachelor of Arts
Area of Study: Social Science
(date)
(honors)

Thank you for stepping in cookderosa,

Again, just to be 100% clear, my concern is that the liberal studies is treated differently than other BA's because the AOS seems to be liberal studies with an emphasis.

Your signature says you got a BA, but I guess you have a Bachelor of Art in liberal studies with a social science concentration?

I think my answer may have confused you rather than helped you- I didn't totally get what you were asking. When I earned my degree, Social Science was not a sub-category of Liberal Studies. Since it now *is* a sub-category, it's possible that it will say Liberal Studies. If I may ask, what difference does it make?

It may make a diff in the doors it can open in the future, in canada the CC structure is different than in the US, to teach in some program you only require a bachelor concentration in the subject, people with PhD might be less desirable for a couple of reasons, salary is decided by the Gov abd are based on education, etc.

A bachelor of liberal art in cs would probably work, a bachelor of art in liberal studies that doesn't write the concentration might not.

I'm also trying to reduce friction as much as possible and not find myself in situation where I need to explain things

To be absolutely sure, email academic advising. They'll know for sure (maybe), you'll get a response directly from TESU too.
