I think UMPI is a good choice. They have a MHT-Certificate which takes 6 to 9 courses. They charge you by term, not by credithour, so if you're very fast and take all courses in one Term it'll only cost you about 1800 USD, which is a good prize. But I guess you need longer, if you don't have any credits you can transfer.
Just make sure the MHTC-Cert is valid in your state, maybe there is an option of adaptation for MHTs from other states.

It is a MHRT-programm, not a MHT-cert. not sure if that's a huge difference to you.

My brother's first job was as a Mental health technician and nobody at his hospital had a cert. Most states don't require a cert.

The Mental Health Technician Certification would just serve to give me something new to do. I have already done a trauma certification and a grief certification this summer. A certification comes in handy for simple volunteer work, when I would prefer not to reveal all the advanced degrees I have. I am still pursuing more advanced studies at the master's level, but I also like to have a few smaller learning projects going on simultaneously.
I have made no decision on anything, but have begun looking at...
American Medical Certification Association
National Career Certification Board
National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists
...still looking for others to consider.

Wow, oh snap, that's adding a few other certs that might be useful for employment purposes, but for volunteer work, I don't think it's required at all, it might be one of those that are good to have though... Maybe ask the places you're looking to volunteer at, what they would recommend, and get that instead.

I already have many small volunteer positions. It helps to not let those at the top know you have more degrees than they do and if they don't ask, I don't tell. A few certifications can help you to not be the low man on the totem pole, as the old saying goes. Certification can make you look as if you are growing and continuing your education, without pursuing a spot at the top. My volunteer work involves specific things I want to do and be competent at, but I want to stay away from the need to climb the ladder to success, as is so often the case with paid employment.
Some certifications are just to keep my mind active as I grow older, to challenge myself, and to be there if I decide to do something in a new area where they might help in the future. I plan to do a lot more volunteering after I retire years from now, and a lot more degrees and certifications to fill the time. The Mental Health Technician Certification is not the only one I will be looking to do before the year is out. I could have also mentioned that I completed my Youth Mental Health Coach certification at Light University today.
