Just mastered 70% of the course on my last assessment - so I'm finally DONE with Statistics for Behavioral Sciences.
Let me tell ya, that course is no joke.
It's been a while since I took a college stats course so I didn't score too high on the initial assessment (25%).
To go for this job that pays more than my current job, I need at least 6 credits of stats on my transcripts. I only took an Intro to Stats course worth 4 credits back in 2006. So I needed to get 2-3 more that's NOT Intro.
So I decided the price was right for the Behavioral Science Stats course through ALEKS.
But, man alive, I didn't think it was going to take THAT long.
Overall, my report says it took 25 hours to get to the 70% mark.
So even though it felt long and tedious (which is was), here's the benefits for taking this course
1) any other 3-credit Stats course at any Brick and Mortar college requires 48 hours of class time (16 week semester x 3 hours/week). And that's not including homework time which you can probably estimate would take just as long. So 48 hours of class time + 48 hours of homework time = 96 hours. So the fact that it took 25 hours for me still makes it "fast".
2) self-paced. Unlike other Stats courses, you can work on it whenever you want for as long as you want. Some days I could only work on it for 30min. Other days, I put in like 5 hours. So it was nice that I could work ahead. Overall, I got it done in 2 weeks.
3) I like that you only have to master 70% to pass and get it put on your ACE transcript. Tell you the truth, I don't think I could take on any more topics. My brain's fried.
So just to inform anybody who's going to take an ACE-recommended ALEKS course, here's some info for ya:
1) You have to master 70% of the course. I know a lot of people on here keep saying you have to score 70% on an assessment. Like other people, I'm like "Wait, what!?" So just to be clear, you have to LEARN (green-out on the pie) 70% of the total topics (your pie) and THEN you have to take an assessment (requested by your master account). After you finish the assessment, your report will show you what percentage is mastered (blued-out). When the BLUE percentage is 70% or more, you're donezo and you can transfer the course onto your ACE transcript.
2) For every topic you go to learn, I recommend first pushing the "Explain" button on the first 2-3 questions for every topic and printing them. This way, you can work on them for other similar questions and also work on them and refer back to them when you take assessments.
Anyways, cool experience. Glad to be done. Now I can show my employer that I have more than the 6 necessary Stats credits so I can go for that better job later down the road.
