My Complete BSBA Degree Plan from TESC
#11
Hey Levi, you have been a tremendous help. I was curious on a few exams you have split as partial credit such as the Humanities exam. Will TESC do the split or do you have to request it?

Also, after my academic evaluations, my (6) Free Electives were applied. Could I use Personal Finance exam in place of the Intro to Business exam?

Levi, how long did it take you to finish your BSBA and what were your overall costs? Did you find that TESC took most, if not all, of your credits? I have a unique situation as I am a nurse (finished a LPN program) and I'm looking to just finish up any general Bachelors degree...preferably Business or something similar.

TESC will apply the split on your evaluation automatically for your partial credit.

EDIT: TESC will not count DSST Personal Finance as a Business Elective; it is considered a Free Elective. That's why it is not included in the business elective section of my degree plan.

The short answer is that it took me about 2 1/2 years from start to finish at a moderate pace. However, I did have to retake my guided study TESC course, which added a little bit of time and money onto that. Here is my approximate TESC cost breakdown for my BSBA.

Levi’s TESC Cost Breakdown

15 CLEP exams @ $84 = $1,260
14 DSST exams @ $92 = $1,288
4 TECEP exams @ $261 = $1,044
Study Materials = $600 (?)
______________________________________________

Total Spent for Exams = ± $4,192

1 Straighterline course = ± $250

1 TESC guided study course = $540

Annual Enrollment (1 year) = $2,520

Application Fee = $75
CLEP/DSST Transcript Fees = $60
Technology Services Fee = $103
Course Registration Fee = $45
Graduation Fee = $257

GRAND TOTAL FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE: ± $8,042

Does TESC find a "fit" for most/all credits from other schools? I completed my AA in general studies from AMU and may look to jump ship over to TESC. I dont really want to waste 75$ if they will not take the large majority of my credits.

Another question.....the 18 credit for military. Does TECEP exams count?

Im active duty so if any one has any pointers that would be great.

Thanks

I'm sure there are veterans on here who can answer this for you, however, from what I have read and learned, they will take your AA as a block and not evaluated as individual courses.

I started college again back in February with an online college and they only wanted to take 3 of my 63 credits. I just got my eval back last week and TESC is giving me 51 credits! I am ecstatic! They placed my 2 CADD classes under Free Electives, Desktop Publishing as a Business Elective, and gave credit for 3 classes I received a D in my last semester that I had attended my local University.

Hope that helps, but I would confirm with a veteran.

Thank you ALL for all the WONDERFUL information! Working SMARTER, NOT harder.

Yes. Thomas Edison State College/ Military Degree Completion Program
Click on the "Taking Courses" link from there. Actually that doesn't say spell it out either. I know that they always have, so unless things have changed recently (which I doubt) they do count TECEP's. Note the rate for courses and TECEP's is higher under the Military Completion program. Still it is a great deal for some.

thanks Levi! Your post is so helpful, however, Im confused about something. I just applied to TESC the other day and was told by the school that TESC requires that 30 credits be completed at their school in order to get a degree from them. How were you able to get around that??

Are you trying to transfer credits from a community college? If not, I don't know what the adviser was talking about.

The front page of TESC's website says:

At Thomas Edison State College, we value your educational experiences. That’s why we accept up to:
• 120 credits earned at regionally accredited four-year institutions
• 80 credits earned at regionally accredited community colleges

In fact, before you start studying with us, you’ll know exactly where you stand: how we’ve valued your college credits and other training, and what you need to do to complete your degree. (For instance, you might choose to take a test on a subject rather than complete a course.)

Nerako,
I made reference to this in another post...seems as if some things are changing. But are you by chance enrolled in a specific program? Example, military student, specialized degree program, or to establish residency.

Levi,
I think we are going to have to wait until the new catalog posts to see all the changes for 2011-2012. I was told of changes in degree requirements eff 4/2011, then it was the new method of calculating GPA, so who knows what other changes are in effect but not yet published.

I guess we will all have to stay tuned.
