My Journey from Dead End Job to Success
Prloko Wrote:Nice video and great family. A very proud moment.

I just watched the video with the closed caption on. It does a terrible job translating. I couldn't help but giggle when it tried to dictate your name as "Dinosaur Nickel Chrome". Tongue

I'm burnt out. The new Amazon job, Capstone, Girl Scout camping trip this weekend plus some family stuff. Have to put the Capstone work on hold a bit. Just fielding emails from the team and meeting once to put together our different parts into a cohesive whole. There's 2 more projects to the capstone that just have to wait until next week.

So much for burn out - I completed and submitted task 1 of 5 this morning. My group met for the last time today and I submitted all 4 parts of task 2 tonight. As long as they pass and don't get bounced back for revisions, I only have one project left to complete the capstone. That last project has 3 parts but it's still only one left for me to be done with the MBA.

Task 1 met requirements!

Task 2 had 4 parts - 3 out of 4 parts met requirements...

*Part 1 was a screenshot of the passing business simulation score.

*Part 2 was a PowerPoint presentation with speakers notes. I need to revise some areas -they are looking for more speakers notes than I would usually give in visually presented material. Although all team members provided slides for their functional areas but I am only graded on my slides.

*Part 3 was an assignment form that detailed the areas of responsibilities for myself and my teammates.

*Part 4 was an extensive written report detailing aspects of our decisions while running the business simulation - thank god this one met requirements. Otherwise, we'd have to revise our separate sections and meet together online again to finish it. All parts of this paper are part of my grade - not just my functional area.

Was going to complete revisions on task 2 part 2 today cause it's my day off but a family matter needs to be addressed so it's off to mom's for lunch. I plan on getting it done tonight when I get home.

Tomorrow is also a day off from work - as long as the revisions are done and uploaded tonight, I'll do task 3. That one involves addressing a specific real world business problem with the company's consent. I spoke to my Ops Mgr and HR director at work. As long as they feel OK with it when they read the the proposal, they'll sign off on it. I'll be working on the problem statement Friday and will send it to Amazon and WGU at the same time. It needs to be approved by the WGU course mentor before I can upload it to WGU so I'm hoping the course mentor approval and Amazon OK come in at the same time. Then I'll upload the problem statement and multiple approval forms for task 3 grading.

Tasks 4 and 5 are an executive summary and Panopto PowerPoint recording based on my recommendations to address the business challenge. Providing all the approvals happen quickly and task 3 meets requirements, I should be able to finish at least task 4 next Thur & Fri. And then task 5 the week after that meaning I'll be done as my daughter finishes 5th grade.

If I wasn't so close to being done, I'd put it on hold until next year. There is so much to learn at the new job, I need to take work home to complete it on top of the WGU work. Ending up in the sandwich generation, I'm trying to manage my family and keep an eye on my mother since my dad passed last year. It's so much. Once I'm done with WGU in a few weeks, that's about 12 - 15 hours a week I get back which will make a huge difference.

You've got this! Look at how much you have accomplished already- just amazing. And think of how nice it will be not to have the MBA hanging over your head for another year.

I finished my specialist degree as I was teaching HS full-time, adjuncting at a local community college, and dealing with my own and my mom's physical health challenges. It was a horrendous year but it was so very wonderful to finish that degree. I kept telling myself, "Eyes on the prize," every time I started to get overwhelmed.
