My Roadmap
#1
Hello everyone:

I was hopping for some help/critique on my roadmap. I want to get a degree from TESC as soon as possible. I work for a major healthcare company and they are big on succession planning. Last week I was told that I will not move up or be considered for promotion due to not having a degree. It is a shame because I am a high performer and I was told that I am well respected within my department however, the lack of a degree will hold me back. I really need help and advise on my roadmap. I am hoping with time and dedication that I can complete this journey in 18 months. Thank you in advance!

Hello! I am a psyc major at TESC as well, although I am mixing in classes as well. If you are considering grad school, be aware that you do need to have a GPA and also may need a certain number of classes for that to be based on (depends on program).

Double-check with TESC that Marriage and the Family will apply to Psyc, since it is actually SOC-210 rather than psychology.

Economics is not considered a science or math, if I remember correctly. Astronomy and computing are, so they are good there. With SL Algebra, you only need one more class in this area.

Good luck! cheersmate

Hi,
If I am correct, TESC considers DSST Intro to Computing and CLEP Info Sys & Comp Appl the same credit (COS-101). It also considers DSST Lifespan Developmental Psych and CLEP Human Growth & Development as the same credit (PSY-211) so you will probably only get credit for one of each since they duplicate.

Micro and Macro Economics are considered Social sciences (ECO-111/112).

Also for the humanities requirement, you need two subject areas. So TESC will probably split CLEP Spanish and put 6 of those SH there and the other 6 in General Ed, and move up A&I Lit for the other 6 you'll need in the Humanities section.

Hope this helps.

You should probably leave that in Natural Science if Science is not your strong point. May I also suggest You look into TESC Global Environmental Change, It is an upper level 6 credit science course (with not a lot of science to learn) once you take that course Environment & humanity is an easy DSST and does not count as overlap. Yes the computer and the development exams are duplicates at TESC you can only get credit for one of each.

I am going for a Natural science exam, but thos are the things I saw at first, also are you sure Human Resource Management qualifies as a General Elective I thought they could not be business classes. In your area of study do you have enough 300-400 level courses? Remember TESC has gotten tougher on that. Just my 2 c

Hi - this is how I completed the psych requirements for TESC (I've since switched to social science but TESC had already approved these for completion:
Intro psych-clep
Statistics-aleks or dsst - I think you are missing this one
Experimental Psych ECE

DSST Counseling - psych 331
Adulthood Aging ECE - psych 319
Abnormal Psych ECE - psych 350
Social Psych ECE - psych 370
DSST Organizational Behav - psych 361
DSST developmental psych - psych 211
Clep Intro Educational Psych - psych 230
DSST substance abuse - SOS 305

I had also taken EC Gerontology because it overlaps their Adulthood Aging but my psych was full so they gave me General Ed for it and listed it as SOC216

Good luck

thank you everyone this is all good advice. I think I have to go back to see if I have enough upper level courses. Do you think it just may be easier to swtich to a liberal arts degree? I want to take as many exams as I can to get my degree. Thank you again!!!

So does the Information Systems and Computer Applications CLEP count as a general ed then since it is under the business CLEP tab?

I am down to 4 credits that I need in general ed to be done with my degree (as of Apr. 24 when this semester is over) and that would take care of 3 pretty easily I think.

You are required 3, 300-400 level classes as well for the liberal arts degree but you may have more choices. I switched from Psychology to Liberal Arts because I was tired of doing upper level psych. classes.
