Need Advise and/or Degree Plan
#1
Hi
I have a BALS degree and currently working on an MBA. I would also like to earn a CPA after obtaining the MBA. Since I don't have enough accounting knowledge or credits for a CPA license, what is my best course of action? I would like to just concentrate on accounting courses to reach the necessary amount of credits to obtain a CPA license while gaining valuable accounting knowledge, however, I don't know if that is possible. Do I have to get the whole BSBA Accounting degree or can I get the TESU Certificate cheap? I attached my file below.
Thank you,
G

The first thing you need to do is find out what the CPA requirements are for the state you're looking to become a CPA in, as it varies.
Amberton University
- MS Human Relations and Business - 2022
Thomas Edison State University (TESU)
- BSBA General Management - 2018
- ASNSM Computer Science -2018

24-semester credits in Business and an additional 12-semester credits in Accounting / Auditing.

I think someone was able to meet their state's requirements for CPA using alternative credits as long as they transferred to their RA school's transcript. But you'd have to confirm with the necessary parties.

Since you don't have the accounting knowledge, I'd suggest taking the first round of accounting courses at your local CC. That should get you well started on the accounting credits and ready to decide whether you want to continue. The MBA program may count for the rest of your business credit requirements.
NanoDegree: Intro to Self-Driving Cars (2019)
Coursera: Stanford Machine Learning (2019)
TESU: BA in Comp Sci (2016)
TECEP:Env Ethics (2015); TESU PLA:Software Eng, Computer Arch, C++, Advanced C++, Data Struct (2015); TESU Courses:Capstone, Database Mngmnt Sys, Op Sys, Artificial Intel, Discrete Math, Intro to Portfolio Dev, Intro PLA (2014-16); DSST:Anthro, Pers Fin, Astronomy (2014); CLEP:Intro to Soc (2014); Saylor.org:Intro to Computers (2014); CC: 69 units (1980-88)

If you're looking to become a CPA, wouldn't it make more sense to get a MS in Accounting than an MBA? That would get all of your requirements completed.

Thank you for the responses.
I thought the MBA would give me the credits I need, however, is there an MS Accounting program that fits the online self-paced model?

Yup, haha, there is! WGU's MS Accounting is ACBSP and prepares you for CPA + other Certs.
