Ep2016 Wrote:Is there any other Major I should have the academic advisors do a potential evaluation to see if I would receive more credits?
I had 4 years undergrad work but most of the transfer didn't come in as 300 or 400 level. Is there anyway to appeal the transfer?
Thanks.
No, COSC transfers to the upper level are similar to TESU, in fact as an example for Straighterline or community colleges, most courses will come in at the freshman or sophomore. TESU is a bit better in transferring some of them as upper level credit, see the ACP page for both.

On a brief conversation with the acedemic advisor - she suggested that I take ENS 314 (6 credits) and ENS 360 (6 credits) to fulfill the Upper level Liberal studies. She said they have to be in the same concentration.
I am having a hard time finding DSST/TECEP/CLEP that would give me credit in the same concentration.

hilarious Most people including the advisor are guessing at what you want/need. You won't find any CLEP/DSST or TECEPs.
From looking at the COSC Master Exam List PDF in my previous post - Your best option of testing can be done with UEXCELS
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...post206317
Read my previous post #3 as there are "three" examples in their degree requirements, which one are you wanting to minor in?
The reason I'm asking before you even went to the advisor is, they need to know, so they can advise which courses will fit.
From the looks of things, the advisor assumed and randomly placed you in example 1 as it requires 6 credits in Natural Sciences.
So, to recap, which one of the 3 options do you want to "minor in?", so we can create a plan for you.
EXAMPLE I: 30
Humanities (9)
Social Sciences (3)
Natural Sciences (6)
Mathematics (12)
EXAMPLE II: 30
Social Sciences (15)
Natural Sciences (9)
Humanities (6)
EXAMPLE III: 30
Humanities (24)
Social Sciences (6)

CLEP doesn't have any UL courses, DSST has very few, and TECEP has more, but they're mostly Business. So you may to have to look elsewhere.
What I don't understand though, is why the advisor is saying that you have to have the courses in the same concentration. There is nothing that I can find that says the BALS has to have a minimum number of credits in a certain concentration. The BA in SocSci or Humanities DOES say that:
- At least three different subjects must be included which provide for breadth of knowledge in the social sciences. Also, students must earn at least 12 credits in one subject area. A maximum of 18 credits can be earned in any one subject area in order to have a balanced interdisciplinary concentration.
But Liberal Studies does NOT say this. If for some reason you do need to fulfill this requirement (and it's just not on the website), you already have 3cr in HIS, 3cr in PSY, and 9cr in BIO, so you should try to grab some of those, whichever one is easier for you to get to 12cr. Here are some options:
HIS (any 3 courses)
Vietnam DSST, study.com
Soviet Union DSST
One UL TCC HIS course (they have several) for $220
PSY (any 3 courses)
Abnormal Psych - UExcel, TECEP, study.com
Psych of Adulthood & Aging - UExcel
Research Methods - UExcel, study.com
Social Psych - UExcel, study.com
Physiological Psych - TCC
Intro to Forensic Psych - CSU-G
BIO (any 1 course)
Microbiology - UExcel, study.com
You do not have to do all 3 areas, just one of them. The other requirement is fulfilled:
- 2. At least two or more different subjects must be included to provide breadth of knowledge in the liberal studies concentration.

This is a great list and I think you need 15 credits from this list to complete the upper level requirements.
If you are taking these, I would suggest going with the 4 Study.com courses, 2 each month. You get to do this in the comfort of your home and proctor final is through webcam (Software Secure, not ProctorU).
Furthermore, if you are taking any of the recommended Straighterline courses, you can take the Microbiology with them too, this way you maximize the course load with the monthly membership. These courses were mentioned in post#6.
Now is the time to decide the courses by reviewing post 3 & 6, and finish. Best of luck,

Just remember that you may not even need to complete 15cr in a single area of study, I would check back on that.
Also, if that is the case, you don't need to take courses from ALL 3 areas I listed, only from 1 area.

Thank you so much for all your input. You guys have made this journey so much easier.
I called Thomas Edison again to clarify the 12 credits in one concentration and they said it doesn't apply to liberal arts so what I was told earlier was wrong. I would just need to take 12 hours in upper level classes. The advisor also mentioned that I have a Lin-400 class that was awarded from my Russia education for 2 credits but he said even if he places it in the acedemic eval it would not help me cause I would still need 4 classes as all classes are 3 credit hours. Are there any 4 credit hours classes that I could take exam for? So I would only need to take 3.
Also, I am kind of close to firming up what test I am going to take for each of my requirements. What would be the next steps, do I need to review with acedemic advising? How do I firm it up.
Thanks again.
