Need help with BA CS and BS CIS double degree plan
#1
Location: Sri Lanka, South Asia
Age: 28

Degree Goals:
  • BA in CS and BS in CIS (double degree)
  • Associate in Science in Business Administration
  • Associate in Science in Mathematics
  • (Long-term goal: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science (and possibly an MBA))
Current RA Credits: None (just starting with Sophia).( I’m academically strong and can usually plough through courses quickly.)
Budget: Around $8,000 (can stretch a bit higher if absolutely necessary, but I want to keep it as low as possible).
Priorities:
  • Fastest possible path to degree completion
  • Pick courses that are relatively easier and can be completed in shorter timeframes
  • Cost efficiency without compromising future transferability
Commitments: None . fully flexible for the next six months. I can dedicate 10–15 hours per day for study.
Timeline: Aim to finish within 6 months.
Tuition Assistance / Reimbursement: None

Here’s the link to my current plan.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

I struggle with few places in this plan, in the areas of AOS for CS and CIS.
I personally don’t want to do Network technology course as it is said to be a difficult course to pass. But I am not sure whether  some of the courses I have chosen in the area of study satisfies the relevant requirements.

As for the ASNSM in math, in addition to the courses I have  chosen for BA CS and BS CIS ,it seems like I only need Applied liberal arts in Math  and Precalculus from Sophia. Am I wrong?

And for an associate in Business Administration, I don’t seem to require any additional courses. Please, correct me if I am wrong.
I want to maximize whatever I can get through TESU.

This forum was really helpful for me to understand most of the things. Really appreciate that.

Any support to finalize the plan  is appreciated. Thanks in advance Smile

I struggle with few places in this plan, specially in the AOS for CS and CIS.
I personally don’t want to do Network technology course as it is said to be a difficult course to pass. I still lack two UL courses in CS AOS and CIS AOS. Any suggestions to satisfy that requirement?

I just completed this double Bachelor's degree plan and I did it without taking Network Technology ? Also, the AS Math - it does accept the Applied Mathematics, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I

I was able to get my non-overlapping UL CIS/CLD courses from Coursera. I was able to do it free as I knew most of the material to get it done within the 7 day free trial period for SAS Advance Programmer (CIS-399) and Cloud Data Analytics (CLD-420). Will provide a thorough post of what transferred for me via alternative credits once I'm off work and on my computer.
Degrees
Polk State College, AA Liberal Arts, 2023 ACE/MOOC Friendly )
TESU, BA Computer Science/BS Computer Info Systems, AS Biology, Winter 2025
RA Credits
ICC, NMJC, Polk State College, ASU
ACE Credits
Sophia Learning, Coursera, SDC

Thank you so much for answering.I am actually still confused about which courses will transfer as UL CS/CIS courses. Will check the courses that you mentioned and update my current plan. Please, let me know more when you are free. Thank you once again.

If there is no alternative I will take Network technology TECEP and then I think I will be able to complete UL CS requirements for BA CS. But I would still need 1 non overlapping UL CIS AOS course. Please let me know if there is any other options. Thanks.

Basically, I would reference the plan available already on the WIKI for the BACS & BS CIS combo. The bulk of your credits should come from Coursera, Sophia.org, Study.com and you will need to make sure you've got at least 30 RA credits. You need to decide on completing the flat rate for 15 RA credits, or to complete the Capstone/Cornerstone and pay the Edison Accelerate fee...
Study.com Offer https://bit.ly/3RTJ3I9

Pre-Med Online, MSc Biomedical Sciences (Starting Jan 2026)
In Progress: UoPeople BS Health Science

Completed: UMPI BAS & MAOL (2025)
TESU ASNSM Biology, BSBA (ACBSP Accredited 2017)

Yes, that’s what I did. I think I have 1 missing course I might have to confirm an Cousera equivalent. I plan to take 15 credits via TECEPS for each degree and other 15 via TESU’s flat rate term option. Thank you

I wrote the BA in Computer Science and BS in Computer Information Systems double degree plan, so I’m pretty familiar with how it works.

Basically, you’re making it more complicated than it needs to be.

If I were pursuing the BA CS & BS CIS today, here’s what I’d take for the flat-rate term at TESU:
  • Network Technology (CMP-3540) – No exams, easy course
  • Software Engineering (CIS-3510) – No exams, easy course
  • Fact, Fiction, or Fake? Information Literacy Today (SOS-1100) – Required
  • Business Administration Capstone (BUS-4210) – Required
  • Liberal Arts Capstone – Natural Sciences, Math, and Computer Science (LIB-4970) – Required

There’s really no need to take an ASU or Coursera course for upper-level credit when you can get the same at TESU during a flat-rate term.

For the CIS Area of Study (AOS), you can only have three courses that overlap with the CS degree. That means Computer Science 201: Data Structures & Algorithms can’t count toward both if you already have three upper-level courses overlapping with CS.

Since you only need 18 credits total for the CIS AOS and you currently have 21 credits listed, you can simply remove that course.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience:  CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management
