I appreciate your input. The catalog does not list which specific science classes qualify for the GEC requirement. My brother completed Sophia Human Biology and lab which was accepted. Sophia Chemistry was initially accepted at UMPI and then at UMF. After the 4th revision to the DPR involving numerous corrections, Jessica said the Chemistry was no longer acceptable. It is still listed as accepted on Sophia's UMPI webpage.
In response to his email, which included his student ID number, my brother was offered support, including tutoring, through two diiferent offices and an invitation for him to come in to meet them. When my brother responded that he would be honored to meet them but was an out of state, online student; all communication ceased. My impression is that UMF is not yet equipped to support online students. Hopefully, that will change.
My brother has been extremely patient. He has jumped through unnecessary hoops for months, first at UMPI, then at UMF. We understand the online BAIS - PP is less than a year old.
Sophia's page is often out of date. The catalog is written for courses at UMF not ACE transfer credit. It does say students need 2 sciences nad a science lab. UMF is assuming that students will take the courses there not on Sophia. Did he ask Jessica if another science course from Sophia would be acceptable? Back in May UMPI made changes to what they accept from Sophia and how courses are transferred in.
Being an online student anywhere you kind of have to learn to fend for yourself and really become your own advocate. It can be difficult because you don't know who to contact sometimes. Transferring ACE credits is difficult at most colleges in my experience. UMPI has been extremely accommodating with ACE courses. I wouldn't be surprised to see them accept fewer Sophia and Study courses in the future. Several of the courses on Sophia just didn't line up with what you learn at UMPI so I wasn't really surprised to see the changes in May. I say this because I did repeat a class at UMPi from Sophia and the 2 classes had nothing in common.

Hi Sophia, I wish your brother all the best. I am currently applying for the UMF BA in Public Policy. I am confused by the description of the POS200 and POS400 courses in the academic catalog(see attach), which states “Course Typically Offered: Every 2 years.” Does this mean these courses are only offered once every several semesters? (I understand that not all courses are offered in the same semester within the YourPace system.)

The college catalogs are written for on campus students. So scheduling notes in them do not apply to YourPace students. All YourPace courses are offered every semester. Most are offered in both terms. There are a handful of courses that are only offered once a semester - like under 5.

Public Policy is a useful subject but UMF is not ready for YourPace students. Every inquiry my brother made had to be escalated to the relevant department director who consulted with UMPI to determine who will provide which services/support. Grading for Public Policy courses was done by a UMF professor who took more than a week every time. He penalizes students who don't share his political views. I strongly encourage you to enroll in a different school. Liberty University is very transfer friendly, has stacking discounts and offers degrees in 200+ majors, including public policy.

That sounds daunting. But as an international student, non-CBE degrees are a bit pricey for me. Plus, I plan to obtain a degree with a major and hope to transfer into some non-GEC programs, so UMPI's BABA or BLS wouldn't be the best fit for me. Anyway, thanks for your advice!
This was a big concern also, the UMF degrees seem really cool Public Policy, IGS, really great concept. The biggest problem I found out while researching out there is the UMF professors are traditional ones and it can
1) slow down the process drastically esp if you have done UMPI YourPace classes and used to that
2) they grade and view it as a traditional college course just sped up
It's not really the professors problem it's a systems probelm that is new, they are used to traditional teaching and students - for some students coming back and choosing YourPace many like myself, have alot of experience and knowledge or some are just looking to finish a degree, we can hammer these courses out fast, so can get scrutinized
YourPace started out very similar. It wasn't 3 days for grades when I attended back in 2020/2021. It was common to wait a week. They barely had any staff. UMF will take time to adjust and adapt.

The polict at UMPI is pretty awesome now and I believe the time for teachers to grade or get back to students is 72 hours, I know this for sure at UMPI but wonder if it's the same with UMF...I hope so, sounds like you guys had to wait forever back then!
