OnlineDegree.com transcript
#1
Does anyone have experience transferring OnlineDegree.com courses to schools they don't have preexisting agreements with? Did it work?

I'm asking because I'm a little confused about the transcript options—one is to have the transcript sent from OnlineDegree.com, and the other on Excelsior College letterhead. From what I can gather, though, the latter option is not an Excelsior transcript and still lists all the classes as taken from OnlineDegree.com.

So what would be the advantage of using Excelsior letterhead? The courses are still marked as NCCRS and will only transfer to schools that accept NCCRS credits, correct? Or does the Excelsior thing transform them into RA or ACE equivalents in the eyes of some colleges/universities?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere. I searched but couldn't find anything.

I am not 100% positive because I haven't done this myself but if they are partnered with Excelsior for this it sounds like the transcript will make it look like you took the courses at Excelsior itself, similar to how Tel Learning allows you to transcript RA credits.

If that's the case, it's a shame that you have to mail in a paper form with a CHECK of all things. Personally, I haven't even owned a checkbook in years!
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

I've taken a couple courses at OnlineDegree.com but hadn't been thinking they would be transferable to places like Pierpont and other "regular" RA schools so haven't taken additional ones. The Excelsior thing makes me think they might, but this FAQ says the courses are indicated to be from OnlineDegree on the paper from Excelsior: http://help.onlinedegree.com/en/articles...-excelsior. So maybe it's more like a credit banking statement?

And yes, the check thing is wild!

I haven't done it either - but the discussion reminded me of a degree plan I've looked at with TAMU Commerce (I'm in Texas, so it's really cheap for us). If you scroll way down to the "EARN COURSE CREDIT BASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCE" section, you'll see some mention of transcript services by Excelsior that they accept.

https://new.tamuc.edu/programs/organizat...baas-orgl/

TAMUCT says they'll accept CBE's transcripted by other colleges, which makes me wonder if they may be referring to something like this also. I don't know onlinedegree.com fits their definition of CBE, or if their vagueness is meant to leave the door open for other things. I spoke with someone at TAMUCT who was bringing in Sophia credits, which isn't specifically mentioned, but as I recall ACE is on the THECB list they mention I know it said ACE, DEAC and NA credits, because I took notes on it. Do their videos violate disability rules? There is no subtitles or written script of the videos. What if one is deaf?

And why is there the option to mark complete if they do not allow you to use it?

Huh

It is not the same as TEL learning. The Excelsior transcript will show that the course was taken from onlinedegree, thus it is not RA credit. The TEL classes show up as RA credit, not RA credit, on the partner college transcript. There is pretty much no advantage to the Excelsior transcript that I can see.

I think that TECEP's, UExcel's, CSU Global CBE's, Strayer Challenge exams, etc. are what they're talking about.

I asked EC about this and they said that the credits will show as OnlineDegree not EC. It's $40 per transcript which is a pricey transcript. Yes, OnlineDegree courses are free, but you have to pay for that transcript and proctor fee along with not being ACE credits you may be better off taking classes through Sophia or InstantCert.

From the website's FAQs:

If I Choose the Excelsior College Transcript Does That Mean I’ve Taken Courses From Excelsior?

No. We have a partnership with Excelsior College where they will produce your OnlineDegree.com Transcript on their official university letterhead. That means when you take this to a university it will be a document from Excelsior College, but will indicate the courses were taken at OnlineDegree.com. This is a better option than our printed transcript since it’s from an accredited university, and we highly recommend them.

OnlineDegree only costs $9 for the proctoring AND you can get a free transcript. Pretty cheap. Once you complete the course you have two options for ordering transcripts - on Excelsior letterhead or free from OnlineDegree. My daughter used the free method to transfer credits to TESU.  Works fine.

They're still not ACE credits which is an issue at many schools. The website doesn't make it sound like the free transcript works with colleges. They have some weird wording on there! Back when I was going to take a class with them, you had to get the transcript through Excelsior. $40 is an expensive transcript.
