Hey guys!
Has anyone gone this route?
Since I have some help desk certifications and a resume that is pretty heavy in terms of technology, I am hoping at the very least to get credit for SOS-110.
Thanks!
Danielle

I would be very surprised if they let you PLA that one since they don't allow it as a transfer. Can't hurt to try, I suppose.

right, gotcha.
This was the reply I received when I initially inquired about SOS-110.
"It may be possible to earn credits for any course through portfolio assessment."
However, could there be other hidden benefits aside from that one course as well? That could be other avenues, I am hoping.

Davewill has a couple excellent threads in his signature regarding the PLA process.
The general consensus is that it generally isn't worth it for classes that are more easily completed through testing and other alternative means.

It's fine for them to say that, but from the FAQ we know there are some courses they won't let you do:
Quote:Are there subject areas where portfolio assessment cannot or should not be attempted?
Most course requirements can be satisfied via portfolio. However, Thomas Edison State University does not offer students the opportunity to earn credit for English Composition, Physical Education “activity” courses, or Math (with certain exceptions) through the portfolio process. Additionally there are more than 150 exams that can be taken for college credit. If an exam is offered in a subject that you wish to submit a portfolio for, consider that the exam will be completed much quicker than the portfolio.
If you believe you already possess college-level skills and knowledge in math, English composition or any of the other 150 subjects, consider taking a TECEP or other exam. Additionally, there are some topics for which students have had greater difficulty developing a portfolio. The Office of Prior Learning Assessment/Portfolio (plaweb@tesu.edu) can provide additional information about this.
Like I said, you can apply to PLA it, but don't be surprised if they say no. Plus, the single course PLA is $178 per credit, with no guarantee that they will grant the credit. It would hurt to try to PLA it, fail, then have to pay full price to take it.

If that's now considered the cornerstone, then you can't PLA out of it. You will be required to take it through TESU (just like the capstone). Otherwise everyone would just PLA out of that as well.
