I passed my American Literature CLEP test today!! That's means I am ready to graduate! Taking one more DSST for work, but that's it for school. If my transcript is received by April 1st I will be eligible for June graduation. That's a BA in English completed in 2 years

AWESOME! In 2 years? Nice job!
Thinking about taking this exam. What's it's like? Hard? I read a lot, but this test seems like a LOT of information to hold onto. Any advice would be appreciated. Feel free to Private message me if you are signing off of Instant Cert. My e-mail is

Thanks, it was a long two years but so worth it! It was harder than I expected and you are correct, it is a lot of information. I just decided to take it a few weeks ago rather than taking my final two classes. I began to read the Idiot's Guide to American Literature as well as the REA book and the CLEP practice book (all of which were available through my library). In the end, I wish I had used the REA book more. The test had maybe 20 questions that I had actually studied for. Hemingway, Bradstreet, and Mark Twain were the most popular on my test. The biggest thing I had an issue with was that probably 75% of the test was matching brief passages to authors and works. It wasn't opening/closing passages either, that really threw me.

Thanks Burresjm, I really appreciate it. I need to have 12 credits for Gen Ed and I am pretty good with reading and literature, so I thought this might be a good CLEP to take and be done with the requirement (I plan to take A&I Lit soon). Do you think it's wise to take this exam or would you recommend another CLEP/Exam?
Congratulations again on getting your degree! That's impressive you did it so fast!

A&I most definitely, especially if you are good at reading comprehension, easy-peasy! If you are good at Literature, this one is a little overwhelming as far as the vast amount, but the test itself (though harder than I expected) was pretty easy to pass with elimination and studying. Another thing you might be able to do are FEMA's (depending on your school). I actually didn't know that my school accepted them or I would have been done much, much, much faster (I chose not to take any tests or classes during the summer). I completed quite a few FEMA courses when I was training for my EMT certificate. They take a little bit of time, but they are free and simple. You read, answer review questions, then take a final test over the information. But, again it depends on your college.

Except you said Gen Ed, I was thinking elective :leaving: for Gen Ed, I would say the two CLEP's are really the best choice for me. If you are better at Shakespearean literature, you might be better at the English Literature exam.

Teaching

I am scheduled to take the Praxis II and plan on getting my teaching certificate. Though, I am currently working in a library and I love it! My goal in all honesty is to be able to homeschool my children, when they come

I am planning a wedding this summer. So, we will see where it takes me. I have worked closely with my local school district and am going to begin substitute teaching there while I am waiting on my certification.
