How to go about that second degree at EC?
#1
I am almost done with my General Business Degree. I love how this thing is going and am contemplating a second degree in Psychology before it's too late Rolleyes

I know I need 30 additional credits to get that degree, my question is, what kind of credits? Upper level, specific psychology credits or just any liberal arts?

Just curious... BTW, what can you do with this degree? Does it make you an official psychologist that can open a practice or something?

Hi Christa,

Here's how I am testing out of the psychology major:

Lower Level:
------------
CLEP Intro to Psychology (required)
DANTES Statistics (required)
DANTES Organizational Behavior
CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology (Area I)
DANTES Lifespan Development (or CLEP Human Growth)

Upper Level:
------------
ECE Social Psychology (Area G)
ECE Abnormal Psychology (Area J)
ECE Psychology of Adulthood & Aging
ECE Foundations of Gerontology (Area H)
ECE Research Methods in Psychology (required)

Additional Requirements:
-----------------------
DANTES Ethics in America (or ECE Ethics: Theory & Practice)

You need 30 NEW credits that were not already transcripted on your first degree. So, if you have already taken any of the above courses, you will still need to take other exams as electives (to ensure you have 30 new credits TOTAL).

Earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology will not allow you to practice as a licensed therapist. But it will enable you to study at the graduate level, which WILL prepare you to become a licensed therapist/counselor/psychologist or whatever.

If you enjoy taking exams, and have an interest in Psychology, I think a second degree, in Psychology, is too good an opportunity to turn down. Depending on which exams you have already taken, you would be looking at an additional $3,000 for a second degree (ten extra exams plus enrollment and graduation).

Totally doable!

Best of luck,
Snazzlefrag
My name is Rob

Thanks Snaz, your message clarifies a lot. I need to consider the costs, except of course if I would take one GRE to pass out of everything, but I guess that will not be easy. There is not a lot of GRE info out there.

Right now I am focussing on Business Policy and Operations Management. The only two tests I still need to pass for my BS degree (Except for ECE HR Management) and take it from there.
