Principles of Accounting- Correlation between Peterson and Actual CLEP
#1
I'm getting ready to take the Principles of Accounting CLEP next Thursday. If I had more time I'd postpone. Needless to say, I am finding the journey less than enjoyable. For those that have taken the test, I'm curious as to how well the Peterson practice exams track to the real thing. I scored a 50 on my first practice test and I missed at least 4 questions by reading them too fast and jumping to a conclusion. I will have to watch for that. If you are scoring 55 and above on Peterson, can you have a reasonable expectation of actually passing the CLEP exam?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

hi -- I'm trying to get the accounting CLEP done, too -- I'm taking the test on the 29th. Smile I heard that the Peterson tests are harder than the actual test -- so -- I'd just keep studying. Lord willing - we'll all pull this off by the end of the month!! KEEP ON!!!

I have to agree with Brian on this one. It was a very difficult exam for me, even having a bit of an accounting background.

Be careful with the Peterson exams for Accounting - I encountered some wrong answers. I was struggling in my studies and ended up printing out the Peterson exam question by question so I could have more reference material when I wasn't near a PC. I discovered that some questions were identical in the three versions of the Peterson exam, but had different answers. I would not have realized it if I didn't have the printouts side by side.

I took accounting last week and made 57. The Peterson's is harder than CLEP because it (for me) had more problems involving math. By this I mean pick up the pen write down the numbers type of math problems. The CLEP has more of this type than I was expecting (5-6). Skip all of these problems first go around. And then come back when you will not feel as much pressure. Time is an issue for this one; I had 4 minuets to spare. Some problems look harder than they are. If you know your stuff you know to figure them out in you head. Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the advice. I'm going to take the second Peterson test this weekend to see where I am at.

Cade-- I think thats a great idea. I personally plan to skip any question the first go around that I can't answer in 30 seconds or less. There are definitely answers you know right off the bat. I'll tackle the harder verbal ones and leave the math for last.

My fallback is I'm in an brick & mortar accelerated program that has me finishing next year. The upside is that they accept quite a number of CLEP tests. Worst case is I take the other accounting test in another couple of weeks and get 3 vs 6 credits. Its not the end of the world.
