Requesting Guidance in Completing Excelsior BSLS

Good morning,

Today I’m posting here for the first time since being a “read-only” member for about a year. I’ve been using this group’s knowledge to assist me in pursuing my bachelor’s degree (knowledge that has helped me a great deal.) I'm now looking for specific advice on my last few steps.

According to my Excelsior academic plan I need 12 more credits (4 classes).

I know one class must be my capstone. I’d like to complete the other three classes as DSST or possibly ECE. One potential DSST exam I am gearing up to take is the Management Info Systems test.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other applicable exams?

Is there any requirement for the courses? UL or LL, Humanities, SocSci, Business?

Excelsior should have informed you what 4 courses were missing and what is required. It can be exams or applicable courses.
I have one question, did you speak with the academic advising division at Excelsior on what courses are required for graduation?
If not, please do as they'll know more on what you require and can complete. If you did, what did they say?

Yes, of course- Arts and Sciences Upper Level.

Also, no specific class required. Must fill the above requirement.

This is according to the last "Using Exams to Complete Your Excelsior Degree" booklet, published in 2013, so check with your advisor to get these approved.

DSST Civil War and Reconstruction 3UL Liberal Arts (it's upper level so it shouldn't duplicate your lower level class, but get approval)
DSST Criminal Justice 3UL Liberal Arts (but it's listed by ACE as lower level, so get approval)
DSST Substance Abuse 3UL Applied Professional
UExcel SOCX-320 Juvenile Delinquency 3UL Liberal Arts

The DSST Civil War should fulfill a depth in History, and you already have a depth in Criminal Justice.


Those classes should fulfill 30 UL hours with 21 being Liberal Arts. If they aren't approved, you could also use:
DSST History of the Soviet Union 3UL Liberal Arts
UExcel HISX-340 World Conflicts since 1900 3UL Liberal Arts
UExcel SOCX-330 World Population 3UL Liberal Arts
UExcel PSYX-325 Social Psychology 3UL Liberal Arts

There are other upper level UExcels, but those seem to align most closely with your previous studies.

The DSST Management Information Systems would count as 3 upper level applied professional credits, so you would need the others to be liberal arts.
