Saylor.org - Choice of Final Exams - Are they same exam - proctoring only diff?

Saylor is a great source of information and the course quality appears to be detailed. My question is since CLEPs are more widely accepted than Saylor Credits, can you schedule a Principles of Marketing CLEP test? It usually runs about $100. $80 to The Collegeboard and $20 to the testing center. It may be that you are overseas and can't get to a CLEP testing center. Did you have to pay Saylor any money?

Thanks

I don't believe the process is the same for all schools so I'd need to know what school you're sending the credits to. If it's one of the Big 3, then all you need to do is print out the "Transcript Request Form" from Saylor.org, fill it out, and mail or email it. You can request the transcript after you've gotten a 70% or higher on the final exam of the course(s) you are taking.

http://www.saylor.org/site/wp-content/up...t-Form.pdf

Hope that helps.

I can't speak for Zen, but the reason I went with the Saylor courses versus a CLEP test was the cost factor. Saylor does not charge anything for their courses. The only costs involved are the cost of proctoring. Even the transcripts are free at this point. Proctoring can either cost you $25 if you use Proctor U or it costs whatever your testing center/proctor charges. I went with my testing center because they only charge $20. I know it's only a savings of $5, but that's my preference.

Anyway, so the Saylor courses I took only cost me $20 for 3 credits. When I took my courses they only offered 3 different courses, but now with all the others ones they've added I probably would have went that route for some other courses too.

That's not bad, how do you sign up? Do you have to join a class and submit assignments or is it totally exam based?

No, there's no class to join and no assignments to turn in. It's pretty much on your own. You can create a free Saylor account (basically email and password) that is used to take the quizzes. The quizzes don't count for anything. They are mostly for your practice. Basically, you read the linked webpages and textbook links, take notes, take the quizzes, do assignments (if there are any. These also don't count for anything except your own practice), and when you feel ready you take the final exam. Once you request a Saylor transcript, they send your score to your school.

Here's a link to a thread I started about the 2 courses I took.....http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...eview.html

That's great! I took the business law course so if you have any questions, let me know or send me a PM.

Will you be sending the credit to one of the big 3 or another school?

I was thinking about taking the CLEP in "Introductory Business law" but if Saylor has it for $25 I wonder if it would be worth trying before taking the clep. If I succeeded then it would be 3 credits for $25 I could donate some plasma and cover that cost. Smile

Sounds like a good plan. I can't really comment on whether one would be easier than the other since I didn't take the CLEP, but since it's only costing about $25 you could try it and see.

Good luck!

Would you say that the Saylor final exams are closely tied to the course material Saylor provides, or is it more general? Uexcel and TECEP tests seem to be closely aligned with the specific suggested texts. But it seems that CLEPs and DSSTs cover the subjects in a more general way, and therefore any text or study source on the subject can be used (IC, FCP, Ed. Portal, Cliffsnotes, etc.) as long as the subject matter has been mastered. So do you think that it is essential to use the study material provided by Saylor, or could other sources be used instead?
I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.
