Second degree
#1
Hello all.

From all my previous college credits, there was plenty of credits I did not use. I am considering a second degree with EC maybe in liberal arts with a concentration. But does anybody know what are the guidelines? Is is possible withing the same school in case I don't go for the Liberal Arts option? I got first in BS General Business, School of Business & Technology.

Also, I have gained graduate college credits, will the count?

Thanks for any help/input.

J.

According to EC's policy (pg 34 of the current policy handbook), if you have one baccalaureate degree from Excelsior you may pursue a second baccalaureate degree only if it's from a different EC academic program. In your case, you would not be allowed to enroll for a second degree from the business program. You would be allowed to pursue that second baccalaureate if it were through the Liberal Arts, Technology, or Health Sciences program.

You can use up to 90 credits from the first degree towards the second. The policy handbook says that the other 30 credits must be new, but I think you would be able to use any credits that were acquired but not applied towards your first BS (as long as they're relevant for the degree program you choose).

The two degrees need to be from different programs. One thing to note is that the technology and business degrees are from different programs even though both are part of the school of business and technology. You can reuse 90 credits, which pretty much makes sense. You'll need at least 30 credits to flesh out your second degree.

What excelsior does is keep one transcript. Your GPA from the first degree will feed your second degree.

I went through this process a while ago when I went back to earn my BS in Elect Eng Tech. In my case it was well worth it.

Wow, thanks perrik and B Smith. Smile

Great tip Smith about your second degree in Technology!

Rolleyes Now I have to think about how I can use all those credits. I will check requirements and take the most convenient option. The thing that will impact more my chances is the upper level requirements in the second major I choose.

Hey, does anybody know about the graduate credits? I am working on a Master's degree and was wondering if those credits could be used with this "project" I have in mind.
